Tuesday, October 21 - Women's Book Group: "Doppleganger"

October's choice for Plymouth's Women's Book Study is Naomi Klein's Doppelganger: A Trip Into The Mirror World.

Naomi Klein is an influential social critic, a perceptive analyst of what branding, austerity, and climate profiteering have done to our societies and souls. In this book she describes her disquiet with having a doppelganger, Naomi (Wolf). From that situation, she constructs a worldview within which to understand and potentially heal society's current divisions.

As always, WBS welcomes anyone identifying as a woman to join our discussion. We'll meet in the Amistad Room at noon on Tuesday, October 21.

Wednesday, October 22 - Wednesday Night Live

Wednesday Night Live programming continues this Wednesday. At 5:00 pm there will be adult choir rehearsal and children's choir rehearsal. Bible Study with Rev. Timothy will begin at 5:15 pm, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. Handbells will meet at 6:30 pm.

All activities are open to anyone in the church, regardless of membership status. Come for activities, or just come for dinner and fellowship! The suggested cost for dinner is $10 per person, though no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. If you plan to come for dinner, please sign up in the Folsom Room in advance so our caterer knows how much food to prepare. Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, October 22 - Progressive Christianity 101 Series

Rev. Ofner-Seals and Rev. Murphy will be co-leading a five-week series on Wednesday evenings on progressive Christianity starting Wednesday, October 22. The gatherings will meet for one hour starting at 6:45 pm in the Chapel. This educational series is designed for newcomers and anyone who would appreciate a refresher. Topics will include: 1) the authority of the Bible and experience, 2) images of Jesus, and the death and resurrection of Jesus, 3) different conceptions of God, and how we understand other religious traditions 4) the connection of social justice with our understanding of the gospel, and 5) sin and salvation. We look forward to seeing you there!

Upcoming Events

Sunday, October 26 - Annual Election Meeting

There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, October 26, following worship. At this meeting we will be presenting the slate of nominations for board members and officers for 2026, to be approved by the congregation. We will also recognize those board members and officers whose terms end this year. All Plymouth members should plan to attend. For the full slate of nominations, please click the link below.

Sunday, October 26 - Nature and Spirituality Small Group Discussion

"Youth and elders, urban and rural, Democrat and Republican, there’s one thing on which we can agree: It’s wrong to wreck the world. The question that we need is, ”What does the Earth ask of us?” How can we give back in return for everything we’ve been given, and for everything we’ve taken?

With Plant, Baby, Plant, we will counter the forces of destruction with creative resistance in support of life. For generations, Indigenous communities, grassroots organizers, gardeners, scientists, artists, civil servants, foresters, food advocates, and others have championed the work of healing land and restoring our relationship with the Earth."
- Robin Wall Kimmerer

  • What: a "bring-your-own-sack-lunch & 'Plant, Baby, Plant' discussion"
  • When: Sunday, October 26, after the Annual Election Meeting
  • Where: at Plymouth, in the Folsom Room
  • Please read through the short plantbabyplant.com website, including the 'voices from the movement" section towards bottom, and be ready to share some thoughts and your own stories
  • Feel free to invite anyone who might be interested
