Sunday, September 28 - Chapel Class with the Anti-Racism Action Team

For the past several years, the Anti-Racism Action Team at Plymouth has been working on a variety of projects to help make us a more anti-racist congregation. This Chapel class series will last for two weeks and is a follow up to the after-church forum from last June. However, newcomers are welcome! Come learn more about what anti-racism is about, what has already been accomplished, and share with others on future projects that we can do together!

Chapel Class is open to all adults at 9:00 am every Sunday, in person or on zoom. The password for zoom is 247302.

Sunday, September 28 - One Hundred Years in the Hundred Acre Wood - Plymouth Music Series

Baritone and program creator David Bobay and pianist Reggie Berg present a variety of songs inspired by the world’s most famous bear, Winnie the Pooh. This 45-minute, all-age appropriate program features music of Disney’s Sherman Brothers, to songs featuring A.A. Milne’s classic text set by composer Harold Fraser-Simson, to pop tunes by Kenny Loggins and Zooey Deschanel. Kids of all ages will enjoy this interactive program.

Part of the Plymouth Music Series, free and open to all, this concert begins Sunday, September 28 at 2 pm in the Plymouth sanctuary.

Sunday, September 28 - Standish Wreath Orders

Preorder your decorative holiday wreaths made from fresh Douglas Fir boughs! Wreaths are very full and medium green in color.

Payment in full is due by check or cash at the time of ordering. Checks should be made payable to Plymouth Church with a notation in the memo line stating, “Standish wreaths.”

*Orders must be received by the Church Office no later than 12:00 pm Sunday, September 28.

Congregational Survey: How Are We Doing?

Every now and then, it's good to take the pulse of the community, to find out what things are going well as well as areas for growth and improvement. To that end, the executive council, along with church boards, have developed a congregational survey that covers different elements of church life, including music and worship, fellowship opportunities, faith formation programming, and more. The survey is live as of Sunday, September 7, and can be accessed at the link below. Paper copies are also available in the Narthex. We thank you in advance for your participation!

Tuesday, September 30 - Environment and Spirituality Summit Watch Party

The Green Team invites you to a watch party for the annual Faith in Place Environment and Spirituality Summit on Tuesday, September 30 at 6 pm. We will gather in the Folsom Room to watch the keynote address by indigenous author and scientist Robin Wall Kimmerer, with time for discussion afterwards.

Kimmerer will invite us into a deeper contemplation of the reciprocal support and strength shared between humans and the natural world. Drawing from her rich experience as a mother, educator, scientist, and storyteller, Kimmerer will illuminate how healing our relationship with the Earth can empower us to foster resilient, thriving communities rooted in generosity and mutual care.

Join us for this inspiring keynote, as Robin Wall Kimmerer guides us toward a future where gratitude shapes our relationship with each other and the living world.

Wednesday, October 1 - Wednesday Night Live

Wednesday Night Live programming continues this Wednesday. At 5:00 pm there will be adult choir rehearsal and children's choir rehearsal. Bible Study with Rev. Timothy will begin at 5:15 pm, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. Handbells will meet at 6:30 pm.

All activities are open to anyone in the church, regardless of membership status. Come for activities, or just come for dinner and fellowship! The suggested cost for dinner is $10 per person, though no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. If you plan to come for dinner, please sign up in the Folsom Room in advance so our caterer knows how much food to prepare. Hope to see you there!

Click the button below to join Bible Study via Zoom. The passcode to join is 773232.

October 1 - Writers Wanted: Help Us Light Up Advent!

Plymouth Church is developing a devotional booklet for the upcoming Advent season. We are looking for 20 individuals who would write a short article based on a scriptural passage. Your unique perspective and personal experience would assist us in developing a meaningful resource for our congregation. If you would like to participate in this or would like more information please send an email to Plymouth.Advent@gmail.com or see Garrett Pogue.

Various scripture passages are still available, and writers are asked to submit their choice by October 1. The articles themselves are requested by Saturday, November 1 -- giving time for pastoral review, editing, and formatting.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, October 5 - Special Offering for 'Neighbors in Need'

On Sunday, October 5th, we will be collecting our Neighbors in Need Special Offering.

Plymouth Church has supported this important offering in the past, and the Benevolence Committee appreciates your consideration to do so this year. You may give in person in church via cash or check (please use the special offering envelopes provided), or online anytime at www.plymouthfw.org. You can read more information about Neighbors in Need here.

Sunday, October 12 - Welcoming Group for Prospective Members

Are you interested in becoming a member at Plymouth Church? Our next Welcoming Group will meet Sunday, October 12, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the Amistad Room. If your faith journey is leading you to explore becoming a member, this is a one-time required session. Whether you are confident, confused, or curious, our time together is focused on orientation, conversation, interpretation, and exploration. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions and to meet others who are considering affirming their formal relationship with Plymouth Church, UCC. A light lunch will be provided, and childcare is available upon request. Please RSVP to Rev. Sara Ofner-Seals at smo@plymouthfw.org if you would like to attend.

Sunday, October 19 - Euchre Tournament and Yahtzee Extravaganza

Mark your calendars - Plymouth’s annual Euchre Tournament and Yahtzee Extravaganza is Sunday, October 19 right after Sunday service. If you don’t play Euchre but do want to play Yahtzee and hang out please come! Lunch will be provided. Let Bill Lambert know if you have a food allergy or other special dietary need (billlmbrt@gmail.com). Please be sure to RSVP on the signup sheet in the Folsom Room. We will need an accurate count for food.

Tuesday, October 21 - Women's Book Group: "Doppleganger"

October's choice for Plymouth's Women's Book Study is Naomi Klein's Doppelganger: A Trip Into The Mirror World.

Naomi Klein is an influential social critic, a perceptive analyst of what branding, austerity, and climate profiteering have done to our societies and souls. In this book she describes her disquiet with having a doppelganger, Naomi (Wolf). From that situation, she constructs a worldview within which to understand and potentially heal society's current divisions.

As always, WBS welcomes anyone identifying as a woman to join our discussion. We'll meet in the Amistad Room at noon on Tuesday, October 21.

Saturday, November 1 - Just Neighbors' 25th Anniversary "Just Dinner"

Join Just Neighbors for "Just Dinner 2025" as they celebrate 25 years of serving families in crisis. Enjoy an evening of connection, inspiration, and generosity, raising critical funds to provide shelter, resources, and hope for families experiencing homelessness in Fort Wayne.

This year’s Just Dinner will honor the history of Just Neighbors, celebrate the courage of the families they serve, and look toward a future where no family in Fort Wayne has to face homelessness alone.

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker will be the special guest for the evening. Tickets can be purchased at the link below.

General Announcements

Volunteers Needed for Nursery and Children's Fellowship Time

We are seeking adult volunteers to help out with Children's Fellowship Time and to assist in the nursery on Sunday mornings. If you like working with kids, this job is for you! Volunteers help once a month or less, either in the nursery or with Children's Fellowship Time, during the Sunday morning service. Volunteers are also required to submit to a background check. If you are interested, please email Rev. Ofner-Seals at smo@plymouth.org

Safety Attendants

The Safety Committee is looking for a few good folks to serve as Safety attendants periodically during worship services. If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please sign up at the following link.
