Sunday, August 21: Annual Church Potluck Picnic
Congregational Life Board invites you to our Annual Summer Church Picnic on Sunday, August 21 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Rockhill Park Pavilion at 1500 Catalpa St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
Congregational Life will SUPPLY: pulled pork and hot dog sandwiches with BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard & relish. Lemonade and water, & minimal paper tableware & cups for those who forget their own.
PLEASE BRING:
- A side dish or dessert to share
- Your own reusable tableware & cups
- A folding chair
This nearby open air Pavilion only has 4 tables available which is why we ask everyone to bring their own chair, and in keeping with our earthwise commitment to use reusable tableware and cups. We hope to see y'all there!
* In case of rain, this event will be held at Plymouth in the Folsom Room.
** The entrance to Rockhill Park is best accessed by using, if from church, W. Jefferson to Freeman St (stoplight) to left onto Taylor St to left onto Catalpa St. The entrance directly from W. Jefferson onto Catalpa St is a one way exit from Catalpa St, and is too dangerous with the traffic configuration.

Wednesday, August 24: Reproductive Rights Action Team
Are you interested in being part of the newly formed Reproductive Rights Action Team at Plymouth Church? If so, we will hold our first organizational zoom meeting on Wednesday, August 24 at 12:00 pm. We will talk about where things currently stand in the state of Indiana and brainstorm ideas for actions in 2022-2023.
Wednesday, August 24: ICMEP Interview with Don Wagner
Indiana Center for Middle East Peace hosts "An interview with Don Wagner: What I’ve Learned in 50 Years of Palestinian Solidarity" on Wednesday, August 24 at 12:00 pm.
Michael Spath interviews his friend and mentor, Don Wagner, via zoom, on the release of his autobiography Glory to God in the Lowest! Journeys to an Unholy Land. Don’s book is a personal, political, and religious journey from an evangelical Christian faith and conservative politics, to solidarity with the poor and advocacy for anti-war, anti-racism, and Palestinian rights.
Co-sponsored by the national United Church of Christ Palestine Israel Network and eight other national organizations, including the Presbyterians, Quakers and Mennonites.

Sunday, August 28: Composting 101 with Dirt Wain
Please mark your calendars and sign up to join us right after worship on Sunday, August 28, in the Folsom room. Brett Bloom from Dirt Wain will be enlightening us with a quick and painless way we can all compost-- one small way to enrich our soil and cut down on waste. A light luncheon will be provided, so please sign up in advance so we know how much food to provide. Hope to see you there!
Wednesday, August 31: Wednesday Night Live Returns!
Please join us for our Wednesday Night Live kick-off on August 31 at 6:00 pm. We’ll kick-off the new season with a cook-out and potluck supper. Plymouth will supply hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers, and others are invited to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Wednesday Night Live is a wonderful opportunity to get more involved in the Plymouth community and offers many different activities, including Bible Study, book discussion groups, various musical groups, and of course, dinner! There is a new Wednesday Night Live sign-up sheet in the Folsom room—please sign up if you plan to attend so that we know how much food to prepare. Hope to see you there!
Sunday, September 11: Plymouth Resource Faire
On September 11, we will have a resource faire after worship in the Folsom Room. There will be tables set up for the different ministries and programs that occur in the life of the church. This faire gives the congregation the opportunity to see what all is going on, find where they might want to plug in, and ask volunteers from that ministry any questions. There is a sign-up sheet in the Folsom Room we are asking the various ministries, committees, etc. to fill out to indicate they will be present and need to reserve a table. We look forward to seeing you there!
Sunday, September 18: Welcoming Group
Our next WELCOMING GROUP will meet Sunday, September 18, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. If you have been attending Plymouth for six months or longer, and your faith journey is leading you to explore becoming a member, this is a one-time required session. Whether you are confident, confused, or curious, our time together is focused on orientation, conversation, interpretation, and exploration. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions and to meet others who are considering affirming their formal relationship with Plymouth Church, UCC. Please contact Rev. Sara Ofner-Seals at smo@plymouthfw.org or 260-423-9424 x322 to register. An accurate number is needed for the light lunch that will be provided by Congregational Life Board.
Standish Circle Wreath Orders
Merry Christmas! Wait! It’s only late summer, but orders need to be placed for wreaths now. St. Joe Tree Farm is graciously working with Standish Circle to keep the tradition of selling wreaths for you to order and receive in time for the Christmas holidays. The profits are used to assist those in need in our community. Wreath pickup will be at Plymouth on both Sunday, November 20 and Sunday, November 27 at the porte-cochere entrance before and after church.
Orders and payment must be received no later than Sunday, September 18. To complete an order form, either click the button below to print off the form and return it to the Plymouth office or pick up an order form at the front office on Sunday mornings. Order forms will also be available at the Plymouth Resource Faire at the Standish Colony table. Checks should be made payable to Plymouth Church and include a notation stating "Standish Wreaths" on the memo line.

As we approach fall and the beginning of another program year, we are recruiting students in grades 3-8 who would like to serve as acolytes for Sunday morning worship. Training for new acolytes will be held on Wednesday, August 31 and Wednesday, September 7 following Wednesday Night Live dinner. If these times do not work for you, an alternative time can be arranged. Acolytes assist in worship by lighting the candles at the beginning of worship, lighting the peace candle during worship, and extinguishing the candles at the end of the service. All children in grades 3-8 are eligible to serve. Please contact Rev. Sara Ofner-Seals at smo@plymouth.org if your child would like to participate!
Each year Plymouth gives a story Bible to incoming Kindergarteners and an NRSV full-text Bible to our 2nd graders. If your child will be entering either grade and would like a Bible, please contact Katie Watson.
COVID-19 Protocols: Masking Strongly Encouraged
While masks remain optional in worship, we strongly encourage wearing them whenever possible. A high-quality mask provides good protection against infection even if others around you are not wearing one. We will continue to offer livestreamed and recorded worship services if you find yourself at risk of being around groups or otherwise unable to attend services in person.
