Sunday, June 25: Reproductive Rights Educational Forum

The Plymouth Reproductive Rights Action Team is pleased to welcome Dr. Alison Case, a Family Medicine physician from Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Case provides full spectrum care to her patients, including obstetrics, and works part time as an abortion provider for Planned Parenthood and Whole Woman's health.

Dr. Case will speak with us and share her expertise about medication abortion, self-management, and how advocates can support abortion care, patients, and providers.

Mark your calendars and join us on Sunday, June 25 at 2:00 pm in the Folsom Room at Plymouth Church. Childcare will be available.

Monday, June 26: Tapping Into Faith

Friendly reminder that E&M will host Tapping Into Faith at Mad Anthony’s on Monday, June 26 at 7:00 pm. It’s a wonderful chance to get to know fellow Plymouth folks a little better and sometimes welcome folks from the community into fellowship. Loosely guided conversation and story-sharing, good food & drink, and good people – what more could you want?!

We will provide appetizers for all to share, and you are welcome to buy whatever meal or beverage you’d like. Come on over!

Upcoming Events

Tuesday, July 18: Women's Book Study

The next meeting of the Plymouth's Women's Book Study will be on Tuesday, July 18 at 12:00 pm to discuss Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. The author weaves together a cast of dreamers and outsiders from widely differing backgrounds in past, present and future to suggest ways to survive against the odds in "a tale of hope and of profound human connection."

As always, we invite anyone to join us who self-identifies as a woman. If you would like to join us by Zoom, please email Laura McCoy.

Other books coming up are A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers and The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama.

Wednesday, July 26: Sweet Breeze Canal Tour

Congregational Life Board presents an all church event to tour our city from a different perspective aboard the Sweet Breeze Canal Boat on Wednesday, July 26! This will be a 90 minute guided tour with a docent. Please dress appropriately for the weather, and bottled water will be offered to each of you. No other food or drinks are allowed.

The cost is $30 per person, cash or check, which includes the tip for the docent. Please make checks out to Plymouth Church with "Sweet Breeze" in the memo line. Sign up in the Folsom Room on Sundays! Children under 2 years old that can sit on your lap are free of charge. We will depart at 6:30 pm, but please arrive by 6:15 pm at the river dock to get everyone checked in.

Sweet Breeze Canal Boat is located at Promenade Park, 202 Superior St. Parking is available at either the new Harrison St building underground or just west of the park on Superior St. All parking meters are free after 5:00 pm. The park and the Sweet Breeze Canal Boat are accessible to all abilities. The Canal Boat seats a maximum of 38 passengers, so this will be a first come first serve event.

General Announcements

Thank You to All Prayer Shawl Makers!

A huge shout out to all the knitters, crocheters, and crafters who made prayer shawls these past few months. We collected 39 prayer shawls to donate to the Indiana-Kentucky Conference for the United Church of Christ General Synod in Indianapolis later this summer. The shawls were blessed at the IKC Annual Gathering on June 2-3 and will surely be a blessing for General Synod delegates and attendees. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this effort!

Online Directory and Emergency Contact Information

Plymouth’s directory is going digital! You can now sign up for account access on the Plymouth Website. This will allow you to see your own personal information, see your giving and contributions for the year, and access the new Plymouth Church Directory. By moving to a digital directory, we keep our commitment to protect the environment by being an Earthwise congregation, while also guaranteeing that we have up to date information right at your fingertips. Once the request is processed, you will receive an e-mail from the office with your unique username and password allowing you to log in via the "Member Login" button on our website.

At the same time that we are providing this fantastic service, we are also collecting emergency contact information that will be kept on file in case you were to become seriously injured or ill at a church service or event. Such information will be kept private and only used in emergency situations by staff.

To sign up for either please visit here or see Jake Slone, Church Receptionist, in the office for a paper form.

COVID-19 Protocols: Masking Optional

Masks are optional in worship and church programming. If you are feeling under the weather or prefer to wear a mask around others, it is an ongoing option. A high-quality mask provides good protection against infection even if others around you are not wearing one. We will continue to offer livestreamed and recorded worship services for anyone unable to attend services in person.

Desk Coverage Volunteers Needed During Staff Meetings

Plymouth Church is looking for volunteers to cover the 1:00 pm Staff Meetings on Tuesdays. If you would like to assist, please sign up with Jake in the office or sign up by clicking the button below.

Open Prayer in the Sanctuary

For a time of personal prayer, the sanctuary will be available Tuesday through Thursday during office hours. Please enter through the Berry Street office entrance and check in with our receptionist. Contact Jake Slone at (260) 423-9424 or [email protected] with any questions.

Volunteers Needed for UCC General Synod

The General Synod gathering of the United Church of Christ will take place in Indianapolis this summer - June 30 through July 4. This will be a rare opportunity to gather in our own Indiana-Kentucky Conference with fellow UCC folks from all over the United States, as well as folks from outside of the US. The last time General Synod was hosted in our conference was in the 1970's - and we are honored to be the host conference this year. All UCC church members are encouraged to attend - you can choose to attend for just one day, or more - it's really up to you!

An event of this size does not happen without the help of hundreds of volunteers and the Indiana-Kentucky Conference would like to ask you to be one of our volunteers. If you volunteer, once you register as a volunteer you will receive a code you can use to register for the conference for a reduced rate of only $65.00. If you wish to be reimbursed for that expense, the Benevolence Committee is willing to do so with a registration receipt. Please see Allen Haynes, co-chair of Benevolence. There are volunteer opportunities for all physical abilities - including sitting!

General Synod includes Keynote Speakers, Guest Preachers during worship, Nationally known authors on matters of justice, Proposed Resolutions, Educational opportunities - and a chance to meet new UCC friends from outside of Fort Wayne! This year's synod also includes the nomination - and hopeful election - of the first woman - and the first woman of African descent - to serve as the new General Minister & President of the UCC - the Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson. Exciting and historic times in the UCC! You can review the schedule and additional information here: https://generalsynod.org/

Interested in volunteering? Use this link to learn more and to register as a volunteer: https://ikcucc.org/volunteer/. Plymouth member Beth Walker serves on the Indiana-Kentucky Conference Board and will be attending and volunteering at the General Synod. You are welcome to direct questions to Beth via email at: [email protected] or you may call 260-437-3942.

We hope to see many Plymouth UCC Fort Wayne faces at General Synod this summer!!
