Hurricane Ian Relief

Cobb Family

Plymouth Emergency Response Fund

Plymouth Church, through its Cobb Family Emergency Response Fund, will be sending an additional $15,000 in assistance after Hurricane Ian slammed Florida’s Southwest Gulf Coast on September 28 as a Category 4 storm.

Approval of the funds followed the October 22 visit to Port Charlotte by a six-member Plymouth team that surveyed damages to a sister UCC church and also helped distribute food, water, and supplies to folks in a seemingly unending line of cars. Recipients expressed so much gratitude for the assistance.

Our team included Chuck Cobb. Sue Cobb, Pastor Al, Philippe de Lavalette, Tony Thelen, and Rich Bard.

The largest donation, $10,000, will go to the Pilgrim United Church of Christ of Port Charlotte, pastored by the Rev. John Barnett. The funds will help repair their heavily damaged playgrounds and kitchen. Its school serves 200 youngsters of working families who need safe places for their children so they can recover and move on.

In addition ERF will send $3,000 to Disaster Assistance/Church of Christ, whose leader, Mike Baumgartner, was key to bringing together different groups to supply food, water, and supplies to residents

Finally, a contribution of $2,000 will be sent to Port Charlotte Church of Christ, which suffered damage but nonetheless served as home base for the food assistance efforts. Pastor Richard Combs was our gracious host.

Earlier we sent $5,000 to the Disaster Response Team of Churches of Christ. Churches of Christ is a denomination we have worked with previously and we greatly respect their service outreach.

The Cobb Family Emergency Response Fund has received $5,000 in new donations to help after Hurricane Ian. We of course continue to encourage donations to the fund which can be made by clicking the button below or by check to the office or in the offering plate. Mark your check for “Ian assistance.”
