Bryan Mills spent much of his career with the City designing many of the parks and facilities we enjoy today. For the last three years, he's been charged with maintaining them.

The City's parks maintenance supervisor joined us on Let's Talk Sierra Vista on the eve of his retirement this week to reflect on a long satisfying career helping shape the community he loves.

As a drafter and then engineering technician with Public Works, Mills helped design Tompkins Park, Len Roberts Park, Eddie Cyr Center Park, and Timothy Lane Park. In the last two years, residents may remember seeing him in our Park and Recreation Month videos delving into the history and current amenities of local parks.

Recognize those who support people with disabilities

Did you know the City's Commission on Disability Issues accepts nominations to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that go above and beyond for people with disabilities?

Learn more about the commission's Vistability Award and Disabled Friendly Business Award on the commission's webpage. You will find links to download the nomination forms and a Disability Resource Guide to help identified local, state, and federal resources for people with disabilities.

Extraordinary Activities

Learn all about Southwester rock art with Allen Dart at Arizona and Beyond: Set in Stone but not in Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sierra Vista Public Library.

Arizona & Beyond is a free speaker series that explores a variety of historical and educational topics relating primarily to Arizona, while also extending past our border. Tuesday's event will be live streamed on the City of Sierra Vista Library, Recreation, and Cultural Services Facebook page for those who cannot attend in-person.

Uncommon Recreation

Swim 800 yards, bike 13 miles, and run 5 kilometers at Sierra Vista’s Annual Hummingbird Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 7 a.m.

Compete as an individual, or as a member of a female, male, or coed team in this chip-timed race. Open to ages 10 and up. The race starts and finishes at The Cove.

Social Snapshot

Adaptive Adult Recreation had a fun time at the Escape the Museum Treasure Hunt this week at the Henry F. Hauser Museum! Their diverse skills and abilities complemented each other as they worked together to solve a series of puzzles and clues (finding treasure along the way) to escape the museum within 60 minutes. With an extraordinary team like this, it's not surprising they were successful!

The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center has suspended dog adoptions, viewing, and turn-ins for about one to two weeks to ensure newly discovered cases of “kennel cough” are contained. Learn more.
