Podcast: New substation will enhance EMS response

Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services Chief Brian Jones discusses an exciting new project now under construction in the latest episode of Let's Talk Sierra Vista.

Located on the northeast corner of 7^th Street and Buffalo Soldier Trail, construction started on a new emergency medical services substation in September. The substation will aid EMS efforts on Fort Huachuca, improve response for many military families living off-post, and benefit the community at-large. It is funded in part by a Defense Community Infrastructure Program grant of more than $1.4 million from the Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment. The rendering below shows what the station will look like once complete.

In this week's podcast, Jones shares why this substation is needed and what residents can expect when this project wraps up next year. Jones also discusses how his department cultivates leaders from within, why it’s an extraordinary place to start a career in fire and medical services, and what fire safety tips to keep in mind this holiday season.

SVPD pulls in dollars for Special Olympics Arizona

With the help of 24 teams and many encouraging spectators, the Sierra Vista Police Department hauled in $9,465 for Special Olympics Arizona at its 15th Annual Bearcat Pull on Sunday.

Spread between four divisions, the teams took turns tugging the department's 15,000-pound tactical vehicle as fast as possible. The spectators helped create an exciting atmosphere in Veterans Memorial Park by cheering on the teams as they did the heavy lifting.

Extraordinary Activities

The The Sister Cities Association is hosting a take out or dine in schnitzel dinner on Friday, Oct. 29. The association supports activities that link Sierra Vista to its sister cities of Radebeul, Germany, and Cananea, Mexico, to include an annual student exchange program. Uncommon Recreation

Registration is ongoing for the 2022 Youth Basketball League. Practices begin in early January and the season runs through mid-March. Be sure to sign up by Nov. 20 to avoid a late fee. Learn more.

The City's online registration portals (RecTrac and WebTrac) will be unavailable on Tuesday, Oct. 26, starting at 7 a.m. while a scheduled system update is completed.
