Happy New Year!
We wish all of our friends a happy new year. May each day of the upcoming year be full of health, happiness and laughter.
Fan of Podcasts?
Do you listen to podcasts? They are a great way of catching up on a variety of topics, including special needs. With an abundance of shows offering information, we are sharing this list of special needs parenting podcasts. If you have any favorite podcasts on your radar, please share with us on Facebook--we'd love to hear from you!
Got Movies?
There are many theaters in our area that offer sensory-friendly movies. This means the lights are turned up and the sound is turned down. Visitors can get up, dance, walk, shout or even sing! What a wonderful feature for children with sensory sensitivities. Take a look at the list of theaters here.
Shake That Cabin Fever!
Spring will be here before we know it--or at least some snow-free days--and you'll want to shed that cooped-up feeling. What better place to go than a playground? For children with special needs, did you know Long Island has many inclusive playgrounds? And if you'd like to see what some classmates did at a Tennessee elementary school for a friend with special needs, take a look here.
Attend a free workshop!
Be sure to regularly check our Event Calendar! MKSA offers free provider workshops and free parent workshops. These give our providers opportunities to stay current on issues while maintaining their professional development hours. And we are looking to connect in more ways with families--whether in our program or not--and provide information and strategies on typical childhood topics. We hope to see you soon!
Reading Recommendations
We continue our list of recommended books.  This month's topic is Winter:
- Animals in Winter by Henrietta Bancroft and Richard G. Van Gelder
- The Story of Snow by Mark Cassino and Jon Nelson
- A Kid's Guide to the 2018 Winter Games by Jack L. Roberts and Michael Owens
Did You Know?
December is Hot Tea Month, National Oatmeal Month and National Hobby Month. So have a nice cup of Earl Grey with your instant oats and visit a train store! Enjoy.
