April Tip:
Use Twitter
to keep informed
of international news.
Last month, I made a case for why
Twitter should be part of your international marketing strategy. To recap: 1. it's still growing globally; 2. the rates of daily engagement are high; and 3. the content is public, which generates high visitation rates by non-users.
But another, more fundamental reason to use Twitter is that it allows you to
keep track of world news stories in real time, in a way that no other social network does. There's a reason why it has become the go-to network for members of the international press. And with a majority of people carrying smartphones everywhere they go, live eye-witness accounts have made Twitter an even more valuable source of information.
So when major world
events are unfolding, good or bad, Twitter is the best place to go for (literally) up-to-the-minute information. As an international entrepreneur or marketer, you need to be aware of what's happening around the world and what's affecting the lives of your overseas customers. You need to be sensitive to what they're going through, especially in times of tragedy.
Recent events in Belgium and in Pakistan are a reminder that living in a connected world also means bearing witness to major tragedies, even when they occur half way around the globe. Let's not forget to respond as fellow members of the human family.
