We are covering the surge in European Cases and, therefore, return to posting the key countries’ updates from The New York Times:
- An average of 5,075 cases per day were reported in Canada in the last week. Cases have decreased by 16 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 35 percent.
- An average of 73,310 cases per day were reported in the United Kingdom in the last week. Cases have increased by 77 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 10 percent.
- An average of 69,702 cases per day were reported in France in the last week. Cases have increased by 23 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 37 percent.
- An average of 200,980 cases per day were reported in Germany in the last week. Cases have increased by 48 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have increased by 23 percent.
- An average of 54,256 cases per day were reported in Italy in the last week. Cases have increased by 38 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 34 percent.
- An average of 14,352 cases per day were reported in Spain in the last week. Cases have decreased by 36 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 55 percent.
- An average of 4,605 cases per day were reported in Mexico in the last week. Cases have decreased by 69 percent from the average two weeks ago. Deaths have decreased by 65 percent.

We stay at The New York Times for “Inside the high-stakes race to test the Covid tests,” which offers us a look at the “Researchers in Atlanta [who]have helped the federal government evaluate dozens of Covid tests and pioneer a new model for developing novel diagnostics.”
A bit of critical thinking by one of our leading public intellectuals and then a bit of whimsy as to the most recent time change The former comes George Packer, writing in The Atlantic, “We’ve turned schools into battlefields, and our kids are the casualties.” Do read “The grown-ups are losing it.” The whimsy is from Axios,“ Still recovering from the time change,” which takes a deep dive into the movement to make daylight savings time permanent.
