Poetry, Pinot, and Book Signing

Join us on Wednesday, June 26 from 7-10 p.m. and support one of our hometown women for a poetry reading and book signing.

Rita Serra spent her first 18 years growing up on the sandy shores of Oak Island, North Carolina. While attending the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill s he studied US history with a focus on political & social movements of the 20th century. Her studies explored the politicization of rock n' roll and how it created a medium of communication within the counterculture movement. She sought to answer the question, "why did Woodstock, and it's three days of peace, love, and music, come to represent the 1960's as a whole which was America's most violent, volatile, and divisive decade?"

After graduating she took inspiration from her counterculture predecessors and decided to solo-backpack across the world. 28 months on the road later, she has explored parts of Europe, SE Asia, Africa, the continental US, and Central America. She is a historian by major, but a writer by nature. Her writing interests include poetry, satire, and historical fiction. A firm believer that music is religion and Bob Dylan is the pope, she see's no reason to cease spending her days blowing in the wind.
