End of Year Plans for Learning Recovery Days
|
|
Dear Parents/Guardians of Sanborn Regional High School Grade 9-11 Students,
In order to provide students with every possible opportunity to obtain full credit for all classes, we are offering a modified class schedule on the last three days of school, June 14-16. On these days, we will run extended Focused Learning Time (FLT) periods.
FLT is typically offered as part of our regular schedule and provides an opportunity for students to engage in personalized intervention, extension, and enrichment. During these end-of-year extended FLT periods, teachers will be available to work with students on projects for competency recovery. Students who will not pass a course will have the opportunity to meet with their school counselor to complete a credit check, re-evaluate their course selections for the 2021-22 school year and to initiate the process for credit recovery.
Please understand that attendance at these extended FLT sessions is mandatory for all students not passing a competency or who have not finished any required work in one or more of their courses. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity for teacher supported competency recovery. If students are not able to make up the competency/credit at the end of the year, they will likely have to repeat the entire class next school year, possibly in an online format.
Students who are passing all of their competencies and who have completed all required work for their classes will not be required to attend these extended focused learning opportunities. Please be aware, however, that bus transportation will only be available at the end of the regular school day at 2:10 PM. Please also note that the last regular day of school for grades 9-11 will be Friday, June 11.
Your child will be notified by their teacher(s) by Friday, June 11 at the latest if they will be required to stay for any or all of the extended FLT sessions. For questions about your child’s grades, please contact your child’s teacher(s) at (603) 642-3341.
The schedule for the days at the end of the year will be as follows:

Summer Academic Support Available to High School Students
|
|
The COVID19 pandemic has placed significant learning challenges on our students and our school over this past school year. In response, the school will be running a summer program designed to provide students with a way to recover credit for a course that they failed during the 2020-2021 school year. This program is grant-funded.
This option is primarily for core classes that are graduation requirements. Students in this program will be assigned Edgenuity modules by their 20-21 classroom teacher as part of competency or credit recovery. Virtual tutoring and support from a Sanborn teacher will be available throughout the summer for students as needed. Students may qualify for this option if they meet any of following criteria:
- The student ended the year with a course grade between 1.50-1.99.
- The student received a passing course grade but failed one or more course competencies.
Students who are eligible for the program will be notified by the Counseling Office after grades close on June 18.

Senior Spotlight: Marianna D'Amelio
An Article by Staff Member Tony Kinsley
|
|
Marianna D’Amelio is an outstanding student and an even better person. During her years at Sanborn, she has left an indelible mark on many of us that wouldn’t fade through the years.
As a student and as an athlete Marianna is self-driven and determined. Her strong focus and tenacity, are the forces that drive her in every aspect of her life, despite all the obstacles she might face. She is happy being part of a team and always brings a very positive attitude and an excellent sense of humor to any group. Guidance counselor Dianne McCarthy commented: “I had the pleasure of having Marianna on my roster for her senior year, and only wish I had gotten to work with her all four years of high school! She is a student with drive and ambition, yet also is supportive of others in our community. While some may think she is always studying or playing sports given her accolades, she is very involved in volunteering within our Sanborn Community and our local towns and giving her time to others who may need it. I know that she will expand on her successes here at Sanborn when she leaves for college and continues to be amazing!”
In a similar vein, Science teacher Meghan Petruzzi said: “Marianna is one of those students that makes me thankful to be a teacher and to have had the pleasure of teaching her. She exudes this positive energy that just fills up the room. She is always willing to help others even without being asked and never gives less than her best. She is also a beast and leader on the field hockey field. I am going to miss Marianna but I hope to hear about her adventures and where life takes her.”
The list of extracurricular activities Marianna has participated in is quite impressive. She is a great athlete who truly enjoys sports. She has been an active participant in our Field Hockey, Winter Track, and Spring Track programs for four years, where she had the chance to show her leadership skills, being highly appreciated by her teammates and coaches. She is also a valued member of our Key Club, and in her junior year, she was inducted into the National Honors Society. She is also responsible for planning the Class of 2021 graduation ceremony and presenting it to the School board.
Marianna will be attending Merrimack College in the fall to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. In ten years she sees herself working in Downtown Boston and engaging in some of her favorite activities: Hiking and traveling. Italy, Hawaii, and the Maldives are at the top of her travel bucket list. Good luck Marianna. We do not doubt that you will be successful on your journey.

Senior Spotlight: Maya Dutton
An Article by Staff Member Donna Harvey
|
|
I met Maya as a Sophomore and as I got to know her, I really admired her ability to be comfortable in her own skin. She knows her mind and isn’t afraid to speak it which will serve her well as she moves into her future.
Julie Healey, had this to say of her; “Maya works hard to develop academic excellence and develop meaningful friendships in school. She has worked hard in and out of school to make sure she is working to the best of her ability while maintaining various part time jobs and playing school sports. Maya spends a lot of time with her family and is very fond of her younger sisters.”
Maya has a small circle of friends and they are a fiercely loyal bunch. The way they support one another and the strength of their bond is a great support system and she is lucky to have them in her corner.
During her time at Sanborn, Maya has been a dedicated member of the Soccer team, contributing to their success as their goalie. As a freshman and sophomore she also played basketball.
Maya has applied and been accepted to NECCO for the fall semester where she will study radiologic technology. Considering she is currently balancing school and 2 part time jobs, she is well prepared for the experience.
Denise Alenskis had this to say of her; “Maya is a pleasure to have in class! She is a strong student academically and is determined to do her best. Her determination will be an asset to her in college and employment as well as her personal life. I am confident that Maya will be successful beyond high school and I wish her the very best!”

Senior Spotlight: Taheera Bogannam
An Article by Staff Member Scott Maxwell
|
|
Taheera Bogannam is an energetic, charismatic, and driven young lady. She creates an unforgettable presence wherever she goes; school, work, and athletics. My first memory of Taheera is from a middle school track and field meet. She ran so hard in her 400 meter race that she collapsed in tears on the ground next to the track. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve witnessed Taheera take that same determination and “leave it all on the track” mentality to every activity she cares about. Through her time in high school she’s made a tangible impact on her teammates, classmates, teachers, and coaches.
Science teacher Mrs. Mulvey echoed that sentiment, sharing "Hey girl! I am so excited for Taheera to graduate and make her mark on this world! She is a force to be reckoned with, when she wants to be."
Guidance Director Mrs. Leavitt expressed “It has been a pleasure to witness Taheera’s transformation as a student over the past 4 years. The confidence she has gained will undoubtedly continue to sustain her in all of her future pursuits. I will miss her dry, sarcastic humor that would shine through in every conversation that we had.”
Social Studies teacher Mr. Croteau shared, “Taheera has been one of the best and brightest parts of my time at Sanborn. Her passion for what she believes, her honesty and intelligence make her one of the most charismatic students I've known. Her natural wit, smile and athleticism is evident from the minute you meet her. I will miss her, her bright smile and wonderful sense of humanity- Best wishes T!”
Coach and ELO Coordinator Mrs. Alley-Violette shared, “Taheera can always put a smile on my face!!! I have coached Taheera during her high school career and she always made the sport fun through her bubbling personality and her ability to work hard to accomplish her goals. Taheera has always been a great teammate---taking time to encourage others. Taheera I will miss you!!!
Next year, Taheera will be attending Plymouth State University and majoring in Biology, with the goal of ultimately becoming a radiologist. It looks like Taheera has set some lofty goals for herself, and the way she gives her all for the things she cares about, I have no doubt she has the dedication and determination to get there. Best of luck Taheera!

Senior Spotlight: Aidan Perry
An Article by Staff Member Aaron Cass

Aidan is a capable, intelligent young man, ready to head off and do great things in the trades. As Mr. Kelly says, "Aidan Perry, or AP as we call him, brings boundless energy to the room. His sense of humor, handiness in the shop, and good nature made him a pleasure to have around. Good luck next year AP -- you will be missed."
Mr. Croteau adds in, "Since I had Aidan in the 8th grade, he has grown into a good natured and well adjusted young man--he is always pleasant in the halls, stopping by from time to time to say hello. We'll miss you!"
Aidan, we wish you the best after Sanborn. Take care, good luck, and don't forget to visit.

Senior Spotlight: Andrew Nicholson
An Article by Staff Member Aaron Cass
|
|
Congratulations on your time at Sanborn, Andrew. You were not always the first horse out of the gate, but you have crossed the finish line. I will miss having you in class and bugging you about your work. Even more, I will miss emailing with your mom so she can bug you about your work. I feel like we're family now ;).
But don't just take my word for it -- here is what some of your other teachers had to share:
Mr. Kelly says, "Competent, Tall, Talented. These are the first things that come to mind about Andrew Nicholson, or Nichol Andrewson as I call him. Andrew is mechanically inclined, good natured and fun to be around. He is set up for success next year, and I will miss working with him."
Mr. Croteau will miss you as well. Here's what he had to say: "Andrew's stature doesn't fit his quiet, witty and good natured personality. He and I share many fond memories . . . car talk, life in Fremont, friends and adventures, but his understanding of government and basic knowledge of the world is what impressed me the most. We wish you the best Andrew."
It has been our pleasure, Andrew. Good luck after Sanborn, and don't forget to stop by and tell us about all the cool stuff you do after you graduate.

Senior Spotlight: Kiley Bolduc
An Article by Staff Member Aaron Cass
|
|
Kiley Bolduc may seem like a quiet, mild-mannered student in class, but put her behind the wheel of her Jeep and she's a rock star! Whether she's cursing down the coast or muddin' in the woods, she's one happy camper when she's rolling.
Kiley, it has been a pleasure having you in class the last couple of years. I've always appreciated your ability to get things done, even when they're challenging - your hard work has paid off. We wish you all the best after Sanborn. Don't forget to stop by and visit :)

Senior Spotlight: Treven Leek
An Article by Staff Member Dr. Kevin Conant
|
|
I had the pleasure of having Treven in my Precalculus math class. One thing that struck me about Treven was the way in which his brain is hardwired for mathematics. The manner in which he processed the material, combined with his ability to solve problems in multiple ways, is a good indicator that he possesses valuable life skills. He is one of those rare students who seems to comprehend math easily.
Treven also has a unique sense of humor. Mr. Helmke said “I always appreciated Treven's sense of humor and creativity when it came to his assignments.” Ms. Vitolo noted “He is a good kid with a pretty good sense of humor (when it's appropriate). I enjoyed seeing what he would make because his projects were always interesting and creative.”
Treven introduced me to a few maths websites and challenged me to look at maths through a different lens. I enjoyed our discussion of the various maths videos that I watched. I want to thank him for teaching me how to view maths through a different lens and for challenging my thinking.
Treven, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Senior Spotlight: Mallory Miron
An Article by Staff Member Dee Hambucken
|
|
Mallory Miron may be a teenager, but in many ways she is an old soul. Mallory has an appreciation for travel, which she has shared both in French class assignments and in side conversations. It has been refreshing that while Mallory can laugh and be goofy, she really is wise and sees beyond herself. It’s apparent in how she looks out for friends, but also in the perspectives she has shown in her classwork and in the questions she asked in her documentary. It is clear that Mallory has passion for her work, but it’s the magical combination of intelligence and diligence that will help her succeed.
Other teachers have also enjoyed Mallory’s presence.
Ahsley Harbel: I loved being able to see Mallory's passion come forward this year as she interviewed me for her documentary on mental health and well-being for her ELO. Not having had Mallory in class since freshman year, it was nice to see how she has grown and how passionate she was about her film (and filmmaking in general). She was professional and made me feel at ease answering some tough questions. I can't wait to see the final product and where life takes her!
Stephanie Westergren: Mallory is an incredibly hard-worker. In my Forensics class her junior year, Mallory was the definition of consistency. Her work was always phenomenal and of top quality. A bit shy, I enjoyed chatting with her and learning about what makes her tick. Good luck after graduation, Mallory...you'll do amazing things, I'm sure!

Senior Spotlight: Mackenzie Jackson
An Article by Staff Member Jillian Swist
|
|
Kenzie Jackson is a spark of creativity, whimsy, and GLITTER! Her effervescent personality matches her artwork- both are charming, inspiring, and always covered in sparkles. One of the many things I love about Kenzie is the way she can go from sheer focus on stringing tiny handmade paper flowers onto a vine made out of wire hanging from her diorama style landscape, to suddenly being the loudest in the room. To say it’s pretty noticeable when Kenzie is around is an understatement. It’s hard to miss her distinctive and joyful giggle that can so quickly change the whole environment in the room in all the best ways.
I first met Kenzie as an enthusiastic freshman. Over the past four years she continues to be equally as enthusiastic and fun, but now with added confidence and drive. Each year she delves more into her creative self connecting multiple artistic disciplines including visual art and dance. I am delighted that I am privy to watch as the thoughts in Kenzie’s mind develop into masterful creations. Many of my favorites of Kenzie’s creations take time to become fully whole. What begins with sections of a cardboard box, spools of wire, and splattered watercolor paper shifts into a surreal garden, or a small surf shop, or her most recent shoe store complete with a tiny front desk, shelves lined with shoes, and a stunning epoxy resin floor. Kenzie’s art and expression stretches deep into dance as well. Some of her favorite memories are from her time on the dance team, whether performing in large competitions, teaching and inspiring younger dancers, or setting up photo shoots with her team. For Kenzie’s final solo performance she created her Alice in Wonderland set and reconstructed and designed her outfit, which was of course covered in rhinestones.
Next year Kenzie is pursuing art at Hartford School of Art, and we all know she will take the Hartford studios by force. Kenzie, I will miss you dearly. I can’t wait to hear about what comes next!

Senior Spotlight: Jocelyn Miller
An Article by Staff Member Dee Hambucken
|
|
Jocelyn Miller is a surprise package! While she may appear unassuming, she is a strong and central force in the classroom. Her smile lights up the room, and she has a way of connecting with classmates that conveys wit, humor, and a touch of mischievousness. Jocelyn is very bright and is brimming with potential. After many years of teaching, I must admit that Jocelyn’s graffiti has been the most fun and decorative that I’ve encountered.
Many other teachers also enjoyed having Jocelyn in their classes.
Ashley Harbel: Jocelyn Miller always impresses me with her artistic ability. I love how she has been able to use her love of art (and her amazing skills) to showcase her understanding in our Holocaust Studies class this year. Through her art, she is able to show compassion and empathy, as well as give life to those who no longer have a voice. Seeing the way she has used art in my course has changed the way I approach several of my summatives so that students have a chance to use artistic expression to show their understanding.)
Nicole St. Jean: Jocelyn has a real knack for creativity. In Junior English last year, she created a top-notch visual for her Great Gatsby Soundtrack Summative. Her final product, to demonstrate her understanding of the text, was above and beyond all expectations. Jocelyn continues to exhibit her creativity and excellent work ethic this year in Senior English. I've enjoyed getting to know her and wish her the best of luck in the future!
Michelle Wheeler: Jocelyne has a great sense of humor- dry and witty. She is driven and focused. Most impressive is her skillfulness at using art to demonstrate her learning- especially with complex topics.
Aaron Cass: Jocelyn is a straight shooter, no doubt. She is smart, independent, and a skilled artist. I've been happy to have her back in-person for advisory to finish out the year. Good luck after Sanborn, Jocelyn!

Senior Spotlight: Jeremiah Scott
An Article by Staff Member John Croteau
|
|
I’ve had the pleasure to have had Jeremiah in my eighth grade social studies class, and again in his sophomore year for YGYM. Jeremiah’s presence in any situation brings a relaxed cheerfulness, especially in a classroom setting where anxiety and stress often dominate our emotions. Jeremiah's thoughtfulness and kind demeanor were always a pleasure to encounter. I remember one of the times I visited SRHS from the middle school, Jeremiah spotted me walking aimlessly and came up to me and gave me a big hug, and greeted me with his infectious-Jeremiah way-making me feel instantly at ease. We reminisced... and who would've guessed I would have the pleasure of having him as a student again! I think I’m not the only teacher who would speak of Jeremiah with high regard. Mr. White says “I have had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah over the past four years, in the classroom, and on the athletic fields. After battling an injury during his freshman year of football, Jeremiah showed his toughness and willingness to work hard by coming back and being an impact player on the football field. We will miss Jeremiah's infectious smile on the field and wish him luck in his future endeavors.”
Like Mr. White, all of us here at SRHS wish Jeremiah the best!

Senior Spotlight: Michael Blakie
An Article by Staff Member Kevin Beaudoin
|
|
The Golden Girls introduction song “Thank you for being a friend” written by Andrew Gold perfectly describes who Michael Blakie is as a person, a true friend. This young man is always willing to go the “extra mile” to help others in need. The staff that work with Michael say, “Michael has a big heart and would give you the shirt off his back. He wants to help anyone in any way he can.” His knowledge of music, (especially the oldies) is exceptional for someone his age. We will miss Michael breaking out in a tune for any reason or situation imaginable. He definitely lights up a room the second he walks in with his contagious laugh!! Micheal hopes to acquire his CDL license in the future and be on the road driving a truck like his dad. In the winter months he will continue to plow driveways. We are all so proud of you Michael and know you will achieve great things in the future!! KEEP SINGING AND LIGHTING UP THE ROOM!
Thank You For Being Our Friend Mr. B, Mrs Drake, Mrs Clark, Mrs Kennedy, Ms. Grenier

Senior Spotlight: Kieran Battle
An Article by Staff Member Nicole St. Jean
|
|
I’ve had the pleasure of having Kieran in class for two years as well as in my advisory. It’s very apparent that he excels in English, finds joy in reading and writing, and wants to get the most out of his education. Kieran is an attentive, conscientious, and mature young man.
I’ve seen Kieran grow as a learner over the past couple of school years. At the beginning of last year, he sat close to the back of my Junior English class and surrounded himself with friends who were easily distracted. But, he kept his head down and did all of his work. Slowly but steadily, he began to emerge amongst his peers as a standout student. Last spring, when we transitioned to a remote learning setting, Kieran didn’t appear to miss a step. He showed up to our daily Zoom meetings, completed all of his work in a timely manner and with attention to detail. We closed out the year with an interest project related to World War II; he conducted research on Charles de Gulle, created an elaborate Google Slideshow, and remotely presented what he learned to his peers. It was a unique topic to choose, which I think demonstrates Kieran’s mature and conscientious mind. I have Kieran again this year in Senior English, and though he has faced the challenge of maintaining enough stamina to work remotely until recently, Kieran has persevered and is finishing the school year on a positive note.
When he puts his mind to it, he’s able to accomplish his goals. I hope he continues to do well in the future and strives for more. I wish him the best of luck!
Congratulations, Kieran!

Senior Spotlight: Karisa Porter
An Article by Staff Member Donna Harvey
|
|
I met Karisa Porter when she was a Sophomore and I immediately knew she was someone I would definitely enjoy knowing. Karisa knows what she wants out of life and is happy to focus on taking her own path.
After high school, Karisa plans to get her real estate license and take business and investment courses to further her career. Her time here has helped her to focus on herself and work hard especially when times are challenging.
Karisa speaks fondly of Mr Stack describing him as someone who has believed and encouraged her through all of her time at Sanborn. He had this to say about her; "Karissa never gives up. Throughout high school, she has worked through a number of challenging situations that have made it more complicated for her to keep her eye on the prize. Still, with a positive outlook and a grit and determination to succeed, Karissa persevered through these to get to the graduation stage."
She also enjoyed playing sports and will miss being a member of sports teams while she was here. English teacher, Nicole St Jean shared this about Karisa; “I've known Karisa since she was a freshman. I was her coach for the JV Girls Soccer team. She enjoyed playing in the games and the camaraderie of the sport. I have since had Karisa as a student in both Junior and Senior English. She is a very personable young woman who can carry on a conversation with anyone. She's also a great writer. When she sets her mind to it, she can achieve her goals. I wish her the best of luck in the future!”
We will all miss Karisa and are excited to see the future that she builds for herself!

Senior Spotlight: Kevin O'Rourke
An Article by Staff Member Erin Smith-Davis
|
|
While I never had the chance to have Kevin O’Rourke in class, I really enjoyed getting to know him for several years through the Sanborn Drama Troupe. Kevin is a behind the scenes guru and his expertise on the technical side of the theatre has been invaluable to Sanborn Drama these past four years. Kevin can often be found in the tech booth in the balcony of the auditorium, usually on the sound or lighting boards putting in hard and tedious work that makes the performers on stage look and sound great! He’s always calm and cool, even when things get stressful during showtime. He takes directions well, and adjusts quickly as needed which is often and “on the fly”. He’s a hard worker, and an overall great kid!
Science teacher Stephanie Westergren had this to say about Kevin, "I enjoy students like Kevin: a sense of humor, a very matter-of-fact approach to coursework, and a student everyone likes. Kevin’s work on a day-to-day basis was always well done and thorough in nature. Forensic Science utilizes a different thought process and Kevin was particularly good at using deductive reasoning to apply logic and demonstrate his understanding of the topics covered. Although quiet at times, Kevin is an extremely capable student. When he puts his mind to something, he follows through and the work produced is of high quality. Kevin is an incredibly unique individual and I can’t wait to see what he achieves as he takes the next steps in his educational journey."
English teacher Nicole St. Jean says, “Kevin has been in my advisory for the past two years. He's a great kid who always seems calm, cool, and collected! I wish him the best of luck next year!”
Next year, Kevin will be attending The University of New England to pursue a degree in psychology. I know he will be missed by many in the performing arts community at Sanborn, but I know he has a bright future ahead! Congratulations, Kevin!

Senior Spotlight: Seth Lamirande
An Article by Staff Member Connie Carson
|
|
Seth began his high school career here as a quiet, reserved, contemplative freshman who was uncertain of himself or his future. However, in a very short period of time he found his way around Sanborn Regional High School and became a magnet to his peers, who began to look up to him early on, and who understood that Seth is that guy who will stick by you. Seth has completed a two year program at the Seacoast School of Technology (SST) in Welding, and it is anticipated he will continue to pursue this as a career. Though seemingly still quiet, and preferring not to be the center of attention, he is always thinking, anticipating, and Seth can be relied on to help a peer in need, whether it is someone he knows well or not. He participated in football while at SRHS, and this likely impacted his further development as being a team player, albeit quietly competitive. He has a quick smile and calm demeanor that gives him an air of confidence now as a graduating senior. His friend group has grown along with his level of confidence (and he still has the best snacks in his backpack!). He has come such a long way since those early days as a coy freshman.
There are others who also have watched Seth grow into an amazing young man. Stacey Hayes from the SST spoke about the challenges faced there during the past year, including hybrid schedules/remote learning (pivots) all along the way. She said Seth had consistent attendance and effort despite internal staffing challenges, he gained transferable job skills, and now has maintained skills toward proficiency in welding technologies. “At no time has education been so comprehensively impacted as it has been by the COVID-19 pandemic. Seth has ridden the wave of hybrid schedules, remote learning, contact tracing, and quarantined programs at the Seacoast School of Technology. He has consistently attended his SST/Welding II course through unforeseen staffing issues and transitions. His ability to pivot between traditional learning structures and the ever evolving virtual platform is commendable. Technical knowledge obtained as an SST completer provides a strong foundation for continuing education or job training. Seth has gained transferable skills that will serve him well in all his future endeavors. Cheers to Sanborn High School senior and SST certificate earner Seth Lamirande.”
Fitness teacher and coach Josh White had this to say of Seth: “I was lucky enough to know Seth, in both the classroom, and on the football field. In the classroom, Seth was always the center of attention, Making everyone around him smile. On the football field, Seth was someone who just loved the game of football. We are going to miss Seth at practices once he graduates, but hope that he will come by and visit.”
Like other teachers at SRHS, Julie Healey said that “Seth is one of the most genuine and kind individuals I have ever had the pleasure of teaching. He knows how to make others laugh and is a fantastic rap battle moderator (you had to be there). I am looking forward to seeing where his talents will take him in the future and I will miss his kind and calm presence in the classroom. Seth is a good kid. He has this self-possessed way about him that I really like. He is who he is, he does what he needs to do, and he does it all while being kind and keeping a sense of humor about things.”
As Seth’s level of confidence continues to grow and lead him to more of a leader than a follower, and as he continues to reflect on his time at SRHS and moves on to likely a career in the are of welding, he leaves behind a lot of teachers, and peers, who have always appreciated his willingness to be there when needed. I can’t wait to see what amazing things you accomplish post graduation Seth. Well done!

Senior Spotlight: James Wells
An Article by Staff Member Kerry Alley-Violette
|
|
Determination, hardworking and kind are three characteristics that James Wells exhibits each and every day. James’ amazing attitude to learn and grow is contagious. I have had the privilege of working with James through sevel Extended Learning Opportunities which revolved around technology and music. James is very detail oriented and takes the time to learn all that he can. Through his ELO experience this year, James focused on music production and was able to work with Sanborn Alumni to help expand his knowledge in this area. I have also have the opportunity to work with James through track and field. James is a coachable, hard working athlete! I have been so impressed with his growth in this sport over the last 4 years. James is a very talented young man and I cannot wait to see what his future holds.
Here is what a few of James’ teachers have said:
Mr. Bradd: James is a very active member of the band program. He plays trumpet and guitar and has been a fine addition to the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. He writes and records his own songs and has even filmed some videos for his music, releasing them on YouTube. It has been great to work with him these four years and see his development as a musician. I am excited to see what the future has in store for James!
Mr. Cass: Underneath that quiet exterior, James is a rock star. No really -- he makes intricate, powerful music, does his own editing, and creates his own videos. I'm so excited he'll be pursuing his dreams as a musician at Berklee next year. Good luck, James!
Mr. Maxwell: James has become such an integral part of our cross country and track teams during his time here. He joined the cross country team his freshman year after having never really participated in organized sports, and he quickly grew to love it. The transformation and progress he's made is nothing short of incredible. Once a ‘back of the pack’, nearly silent participant, James became a consistent contributor vying for a spot on the varsity team, and the vocal leader of our team cheer. James also became the team's resident explorer, always adventuring off and giving names to each of the runs he'd go on. I'm sure he'll take his competitiveness and sense of adventure to every aspect of his life after high school!

Senior Spotlight: Kaylen LaChapelle
An Article by Staff Member Kerry Alley-Violette
|
|
I have had the privilege of knowing Kaylen LaChapelle for four years in the capacity of a student and an athlete. Kaylen is an exceptional asset to our Sanborn Community. She is kind, caring and compassionate--always looking to help others. I have seen her extend a helping hand to classmates, teammates, and opponents. Kaylen likes to help others grow in confidence. In sports she is always looking out for her teammates who need extra help--she runs extra laps with the athletes who struggle to run--she stays late with teammates to help them work on a skill. I have seen her at soccer games picking up opponents off the ground who have fallen; at track meets giving advice to competitors to help them improve.
Kaylen is hard working; she gives 100% to all tasks. Kaylen is currently maintaining a 4.0 average, captain of the soccer team, a member of the yearbook staff, a member of student council, a member of the National Honor Society, holds down a part-time job and finds time to complete many community service projects. Kaylen does not shy away from a challenge; she embraces a challenge.
Through athletics, academics and community service, I have seen Kaylen grow, not only as an athlete, but as a leader and a young lady. Kaylen has excelled on the track; she was the DII 2018 Triple Jump Champion, DII 2019 Long Jump Champion and this year she placed 3rd in the State for Long Jump and 5th for High Jump. Kaylen also holds the Indoor Track record for Long Jump for Sanborn!! Kaylen works hard to improve each time she competes. I have enjoyed watching her thrive in this environment.
Here is what a few teachers have to say about Kaylen: Jeff Adams: Kaylen did amazing on the yearbook during this difficult year. She was organized, helpful and not afraid to give her opinion on what should be done.. It was great having her on the staff. Thank you for all your hard work.
Mrs. Mersedes: I’ve known Kaylen since her freshman year, and it has been a privilege to see her grow. She is an amazing student that any teacher would love to have in class. She is always dedicated to her work and takes her learning very seriously. As a member of the Spanish Honor Society has always been willing to volunteer her time. However, Kaylen is more than just an excellent student. She is a lovely person with a big heart who goes the extra mile in caring for others. Her acceptance into the nursing program at the University of New Hampshire comes as no surprise. I wish her the best of luck in her endeavors!
¡Buena suerte señorita Kaylen!

Senior Spotlight: Madison McManus
An Article by Staff Member Tony Kinsley

Kind, compassionate, hardworking, smart, intelligent. These are some of the adjectives that teachers and peers often use to describe Madison McManus. I had the luck of knowing Madi during her Freshman year, and since I first met her, she has seemed well beyond her years. She is wise and thoughtful, speaking articulately and carefully. I always appreciate her perspective and outlook. She is clever, witty, and very bright.
Madi is an excellent role model for her peers and a true leader that leads by example on every occasion: in the classroom, on the soccer field, or at the gymnastics court. She enjoys playing piano, being outdoors, and cleaning. She is also very good at making coffee and likes making it for other people. She loves spending time with her family and her pets, Lucy and Delilah.
Madi is pursuing a career in Nursing. During her time at Sanborn, she has become an LNA (Nurse Assistant) and has been working in the field gaining not only experience but the certainty that she wants to spend her life helping others. Given her kind nature and drive, her success will come as no surprise to her Sanborn teachers. Science teacher Meghan Petruzzi commented: “Over the past two years, I have gotten to know the many aspects of Madison. I am impressed by how well she juggles the many parts of her life and her amazing resilience. The most striking thing about Madison is her compassion and kind nature, she truly wants the best for everyone. Madison often helps her peers with academics, she makes time to help even when she herself has a lot to do. Madison is pursuing an accelerated nursing degree and I am excited for her, and for those that she will be helping."
The next step for Madi will be to attend NECC for two years to become a Registered Nurse and then will transfer to a 4-year college to get a BS in Nursing. After that, she will attend college for two more years to become a CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist). We do not doubt that she will succeed in anything she will attempt. Guidance Counselor Dianne McCarthy says: “Madison is a very driven young woman who has been a tremendous asset to Sanborn, and I know she will flourish in her future career as a nurse. I have truly enjoyed getting to know her and hearing about her love of gymnastics and soccer and general athleticism, as well as her love of helping others. It is that love of helping others that will make her so successful in her future. Madi, it was a true pleasure to work with you and you will be missed here at SRHS!!"
Madi, certainly you will be missed by many here at Sanborn, but we know that your dedication and tenacity will take you to wonderful places in the future. Good luck!!

Senior Spotlight: Dacey Schreiber
An Article by Staff Member Kerry Alley-Violette
|
|
Dacey Schreiber is a self-driven learner who is always looking for opportunities to grow as a student, a nurse and a community member. Dacey took the initiative to begin her career path in nursing by becoming a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) during the summer before her junior year. She continued to seek learning opportunities through an internship with a local ambulance service where she was exposed to first responder training. Through her internship experience Dacey set goals, wrote weekly reflections, completed research and presented her learning to a panel of teachers.
Dacey is currently participating in work based learning using her LNA credentials in a local nursing home. Dacey continues to amaze me; she is always looking for new learning opportunities. Dacey is enrolled in a medical terminology online class, participating in virtual experiences through a New Hampshire hospital and taking advantage of job shadowing opportunities in the nursing profession. Dacey does not wait for learning opportunities to come to her--she creates the learning opportunities.
In her current placement, Dacey has learned proper personal care, as well as, how to provide emotional support and comfort to residents who have felt very alone during the pandemic. One of the hardest aspects of nursing that Dacey has learned is how to face the realities of death in a professional setting. Dacey has also developed strategies for dealing with dementia patients including finding ways to speak with them, redirect them when they are struggling with memory issues and addressing safety concerns when they try to run away.
Dacey also led a community service project--creating blankets to be distributed among 4 local nursing homes. Dacey enlisted the help of her peers through NHS and Key Club, she raised funds for the materials and organized the entire experience. Through her caring nature Dacey has made an impact not only on our Sanborn Community but on all of those who have come in contact with her. It takes a mature, well-balanced high school student to take this hands on learning approach at such a young age. Dacey has done this amazingly.

Well, what can I say? She rocks a mean ponytail ! Teacher Josh White had this to say about Brianna, “I have had the pleasure of having Brianna in class, getting to know her has been great. Even though, at times, she was reluctant to fully engage in PE, she did a great job when she gave it her all! I am still waiting for our rap battle!!”

Adam has come a long way since junior year. He has matured into a fine young man who is funny, intelligent and stubborn. Adam is naturally curious and works hard when he decides he wants to accomplish something. When he’s in the right frame of mind, he enjoys a good intellectual debate. Adam is energetic and engaging and driven. He has been working a full time job since going remote last year and continues to find a work school balance. Physical Education teacher Josh White has this to say about Adam, “It has been great getting to know Adam over the past 4 years, his personality is great and smile is contagious.” We wish Adam the best of luck and know he will be successful!

Devin is an easy going, but hard working student. He treats school like he does a job, taking it seriously and having fun at the same time. Devin has been a pleasure to work with. This guy has quite the sense of humor, even if it can be a little spicy. Devin will be an asset to any job or program he attends. Physical education teacher Josh White had this to say about Devin, “It was great having Devin in class, he excelled in multiple different activities while taking my classes. Getting to know Devin over the past four years has been quite the experience and I am very proud to see him grow.” We wish him the best!

Senior Spotlight: JD Therrien

We have had the pleasure of knowing and working with JD for the past year. He has demonstrated kindness and maturity entering his senior year. After struggling a bit with remote, he has come back in person with a BANG! He is productive and works hard to do what he needs to do. JD has a great sense of humor and appreciates one in return. He brings a sense of fun to the class when he is in a good mood, and we will miss him next year.
JD has always been very personable and engaging and I am very excited by the opportunity to work with him again this year. It won’t be the same without him next year. ~Ms. Harvey

Senior Spotlight: Karissa Stasinos
An Article by Staff Member Jillian Spero

I am so lucky to have had Karissa Stasinos in my math class this year. When I first met Karissa she was very quiet. I remember one day we started talking about getting our nails done during 5+ and that was when Karissa opened up. I started to see how creative, kind hearted and outgoing she truly is. Karissa is a hard working and dedicated student who is never afraid to ask for help or volunteer in class.
Although I know Karissa secretly loves math, her heart is in art. She loves doing things that require creativity, which is why you can always find her in the art room! Her creativity extends through her work in all of her classes.
Aaron Cass says, “I would love to see the world through Karissa's eyes. I imagine it being full of poetry, music, and art, with cool people and fun ideas. Glad to have you in class, Karissa, and good luck with life after Sanborn.”
Madame Hambucken had this to say about Karissa: “Karissa is a very creative and unique student who is not afraid to show her own sense of style. Her work in French class shows an attention to detail and a special flair that make reading her work a joy.”
Karissa’s tennis coach Jerry Wolbert shared, “Karissa has been a member of the Girls Varsity Tennis team since she was a Freshman. She thoroughly enjoys the game of tennis and is a team oriented player, always focused on ways to improve her skills and support her teammates.”
Karissa is attending Lakes Region Community College and will be studying baking and pastry arts. She then plans to attend another college to get her Masters with the goal of one day opening her own bakery!
Karissa you will do amazing things in life and I will miss seeing you around. Always reach for the stars and never give up. I cannot wait to come try a sweet at your bakery!

Parents—Talk With Your High School Grads About Celebrating Safely
Graduation is a time to celebrate. But before your high school seniors begin their parties, take the time to talk with them about keeping events alcohol-free—it just may save a life. No amount of underage drinking is legal or safe. And we know that any underage drinking can lead to consuming too much alcohol, which may result in poor decisions, injuries, alcohol overdose, and possibly death. https://www.collegedrinkingprevention.gov/media/NIAAA_HS_Grad_FactSheet_Release_2020.pdf .
You are the No. 1 influence on your teens’ decision-making. Your support, guidance and open communication plays a key role in helping to prepare for challenges they will face.

PTO Clothing & Shoe Donation Bins
|
|
When you drop your unwanted clothing and shoes off in these bins, the SRHS PTO gets paid based on the weight of the clothing! This is a really easy way to help our school. All PTO proceeds go directly back to programming and scholarships that directly benefit our students. NOTE: Shoes must go in a separate bin.
Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
