Polar Bear Fun Sail
Sat, Feb 5, 11:00a - 5:00p

The 3rd in our Winter "You're Going Sailing When?" series of events. Not to be confused with an annual Polar Bear Swims, our plan is to stay warm, stay dry, and have a boatload of fun sailing to another interesting lake location.

Do yourself of favor and get out of the house for fresh air and natural Vitamin D (sunshine). It will do your spirit and your body well.

We'll use our diesel fleet, so all boat will have a head and a cabin to re-warm as needed. Open to all members, regardless of experience, as the club will provide an experienced skipper for each boat.

Bring a snack to share on board and plan to enjoy your day on the lake.

Oh yes, it's also an opportunity to celebrate Bob Marley's birthday.....

One Cabin Left for Belize!
 Share the Sail in Paradise.
Unspoiled and less crowded than other parts of the Caribbean, Belize is a laid-back paradise very similar to the cruising grounds of the South Pacific. Known for world-class snorkeling, superior chartering in protected waters, and unparalleled natural beauty, a Belize cruising vacation is unique and special.  A Belize cruising vacation naturally focuses on the onboard experience, scenic anchorages behind palm-fringed or mangrove-lined cayes, and the fantastic swimming and snorkeling in some of the clearest water anywhere. Forays to restaurants on the cayes to sample local cuisine and exposure to Belizean culture add to the pleasures.
A Moorings 4800 catamaran has been reserved for the trip, configured with four cabins with ensuite heads. The first night is a sleep-aboard on the boat June 3, 2022 in the Laru Beya Marina on the Placencia peninsula, with departure the next morning following chart and boat briefings at the Moorings base. The boat is due back at the base on the morning of June 11, 2022.  Direct flights from Atlanta to Belize City International Airport are available, with flight connections on a regional carrier to the regional airport near the base.

Your share of the charter expense is $3200 per cabin, one or two person occupancy, covering all boat expenses (charter vessel and dinghy, cleaning fee, taxes and required permits, insurance, on board provisions, moorings, dock fees, fuel, water and ice, and the expenses of your skipper/coach). You will be responsible for transportation to and from the charter base, all shore side expenses, any adult beverages you choose to have on board, and any personal or miscellaneous expenses. One person per cabin needs to be ASA 104 Bareboat Certified and all crew must be fully vaccinated for Covid 19 for this charter.

This is not a class, just a fun, relaxing sailing trip in paradise where you get to practice your LSA-trained skills, under the watchful eye of your skipper/coach Ed Caldwell, whose company Burwell Global, Inc. is making this trip possible. Contact Ed at caldwell.edward@gmail.com or 404.307.0314 to get on the list!

A sailor's sailor
Duncan Hood 's Latest Book

"Duncan Hood, a dear friend of LSA and a master sailor in his own right, has publish four books about coastal sailing and his nautical experiences along the way. We recommend these entertaining and dream generating works of literature.

Witty and informative, this is the ship's log and trip journal from a 7-week journey from Annapolis, MD to Lake Champlain and back. The trip totaled 1,200 miles and required un-stepping and re-stepping the masts of a beautiful Cherubini 48' schooner, Adventurer. The trip was completed in 5 sections, each with a different crew. For anyone considering any American canal route and just a good, fun read, follow along!
