Police Department Confirms Death of 10-year-old Resident in Route 30 Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Thursday, July 31

Montgomery, Illinois - In a tragic incident on Thursday, July 31, 2025, a vehicle struck a juvenile pedestrian, resulting in the death of the child. At approximately 7:57P the Montgomery Police Department was dispatched to the area of Route 30 and Horseman Trail. The initial call came in as a cardiac arrest, but while en route, KenCom advised Officers of the vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.

Upon arriving at the scene and determining the severity of the accident, the Montgomery Police Department and assisting agencies closed Route 30 in both directions between Orchard Rd. and Horseman Tr. for several hours, causing significant traffic disruption.

The vehicle, traveling westbound on Route 30, struck the juvenile who was crossing the street (northbound) from a local business in the 1900 block of Baseline. The juvenile, identified as Vincente Poban, age 10, was transported to Rush Copley Hospital. Shortly after arrival, medics airlifted the boy to Loyola in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of August 2, 2025.

The Montgomery Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Vincente’s family and friends. Additionally, they would like to thank the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART), the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Kane County OEM, and the first responders of the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District for their swift response and assistance.
