October 2018
Instructors Wanted
PRI is seeking instructors throughout the US with expertise in law enforcement technology, information management and public records.  Instructors teach when they want and where they want.  Details here.

RMS Survey
As you know, we undertook the effort to survey our readership (12,518) about their RMS.  Unfortunately, only 157 surveys were submitted. Accordingly, each system listed in the survey received only a few responses (not enough to draw any conclusions).  We'll keep the survey open and if enough responses are received, we'll publish the results.
Conversion to NIBRS Update

All agencies will be converting to NIBRS reporting by 2021.  If you haven't already, contact your state UCR program to confirm your state's timeline. Here is a list of all state program contacts.

NIBRS Training
If you haven't started training in NIBRS, what are you waiting for?
Our 1-day course is an excellent way to learn how the program works and what you need to do to convert.  We currently have 2 courses scheduled in Florida however, to bring this to your area and get free seats, host the class; see here for details.

Submit your budgeting wish list with our training price list.

What PRI Can Do For You

Enterprise IT planning  is what prevents disjointed systems from being purchased and implemented, resulting in data silos and fractured workflows.  It's what averts getting the latest shiny new tool without forethought given to its impact on existing business process. Its what enables cost-effective business decisions and cost savings.  We will assess, document, prioritize and determine the total cost of ownership of your agency's technology needs. Plan ahead before buying uninformed.

Business intelligence tools provide your agency with key performance indicators such as real-time clearance rates, report turn-around times, crime stats, use of force and report error-rates per officer, supervisor and agency overall.   In just a few days, we'll build a custom dashboard and live data visualizations which uncover patterns, trends and problems as they occur.

While at its core is a two-day workshop, this is an ongoing program where attending scholars will become part of a peer group who will serve to support, mentor and advise each other on an ongoing basis in the development and implementation of a customized model police records management program for your agency.

During the workshop, moderated by PRI, you and your group will develop an actionable plan to bring back to your agency and the skills needed to get it approved and implemented, guided by the 4 pillars of a model police records operation: 1) sound business process 2) people's performance 3) legal compliance and 4) modern technology.

Utilizing an online system, your groups will maintain contact, share ideas, provide feedback, network and develop career-long relationships. In addition to the practical education this program provides, the connections you make will be even more valuable.

The plan you will develop will include the strategies, risks, timelines, policy and training requirements for:
  • Developing and tracking real-time key performance indicators
  • Annual compliance with retention schedules across the agency
  • Effective policy governing report writing, public records, report corrections, management process
  • Selecting the right systems for managing records and data
  • Standardizing and maximizing the use of CAD/RMS
  • Developing performance expectations and standards
You will learn the skills needed to:
  • To obtain buy-in and effectively communicate your vision clearly and concisely
  • Deal effectively with difficult employees and supervisors
  • Demonstrate leadership skills for cross-generational staff
  • Draft professional, management-level plans and staff reports
Cohort #1 will be at the College of Lake County, IL, January 8-9th.

NOTE: We are seeking to offer this program monthly around the US but we need host agencies.  Click below for details.
Crime Data, Report-error and Turnaround-time Dashboards are here!

Key Performance Indicators
To get your NIBRS data "certified", an agency is required to report 3 consecutive months of UCR reports with a less than 4% error-rate.  How do you get there? You won't unless you start tracking the metrics now.  We can in just a few days build these real-time key performance indicators for you.
  • Report turnaround-time
  • Report error-rate per-officer, per-supervisor, agency overall
  • Live NIBRS data online, graphically displayed where you need it.
Our Training Seminars
Body Worn Camera Records: Law, Policy, Practice $385
A two day program

The management and dissemination of BWC recordings is a rather, albeit unnecessarily, contentious issue. Whether or not the video shall be released according to the law is one matter while the decision to voluntarily release it is another. These issues are often conflated with the preservation of videos as "evidence"- a separate matter altogether from public records law.  In this 2 day course, in-depth practical information including legal requirements and best practices combined with a hands-on policy development exercise will be provided by subject matter experts from law enforcement.

Host this Class and Receive 2 free seats!

Managing Police Records
Retention and release of records
In this class you will learn how to determine how long records must be kept, in what format, when they can be destroyed and what the legal requirements are for releasing information to the public.

Building a Model Police Records Unit
A two day program
The only one of its kind, in this two day course learn how to minimize liability, improve performance, empower the records function, build professionalism, and increase customer service. Designed for records managers, clerks and supervisors, this course teaches you how to run the records unit as if it were a business: efficiently, legally and customer focused. Learn practical techniques that will improve the operations of this critical support component.

Evidence & Records: retention and destruction    $195
This course focuses on the proper management of the records related to evidence and property. Learn what the law requires. How long should evidence be kept? What about the records associated with the case? When the court sends a letter saying the evidence can be destroyed, should it be?

Crime Stats and NIBRS for the Police Executive $159
NIBRS is coming- learn all about it in this 1 day, extraordinarily informative course about your crime stats. This course is for those who need to understand the changes that are coming and how the numbers work, how to keep them accurate and how they will change.
