Recap of Council meeting 08-21-24


Present: Hollenbeck, Kaminski, Small, Buckingham, Scheib.


The Council approved minutes from the council meeting on 08-07-24. Ayes Hollenbeck, Kaminski, Small, Buckingham, Scheib


The Council approved the Bimonthly Expense Report $246,579.55. Ayes Hollenbeck, Kaminski, Small, Buckingham. Nays Scheib.


The biggest expenses were Brenntag Mis-South Chemicals $5,060.02. Eres International Inc. Commercial Street NDT Testing $9,390.00. Fleet Safety Supply - Equipment for new squad car. Illinois Power Marketing (Homefield Electric) $38,694.22. Marseilles Public Library – Real Estate Tax Distribution $70,338.13


The Council approved the Biweekly Salary Payroll $98,876.07. Ayes Hollenbeck, Kaminski, Small, Buckingham, Scheib.

Police Sergeant James Buckingham was promoted to Captain and pinned by his wife Ashley. His family was also able to attend to celebrate the promotion.

Marseilles resident Wes Budach was sworn in by Commissioner Small as the Police Department’s newest officer.



Scout William Stockman was given permission by the council to install a gaga ball pit at Gutherie Park as his Eagle Scout Project.

Commissioner Buckingham updated the council regarding the swimming pool, stating there was approximately 10k deficit. This amount is average for the City.


City Engineer Mike Etscheid stated that the Broadway Park project is now scheduled to start after Labor Day and the street resurfacing program will begin next week. Commissioner Scheib stated Commercial Street will not be resurfaced this year.


Mayor Hollenbeck reappointed Judi Johnson to the Marseilles Library Board. 

Resolution 2024-20 was passed relating to IDOT Improvement for the Fillebrown Street project. This closes that project out.


Scott Damjanovic spoke regarding confidential personnel files relating to an employee. Personnel files and can and should only be accessed by the employer and employee. The City is now subjected to liability.

Fall Festival October 5th The City of Marseilles annual Fall Festival is coming! The event will be October 5th from 12 Noon - 5 PM! Come and check out the raffle baskets available NOW at City Hall to support the event!
