PROUD Light Up Parade
Pontiac Proud is once again pleased to present their annual light up parade! A favorite of many, the Light Up Parade is the traditional kick-off to the holidays in Pontiac. Held the Friday after Thanksgiving (this year's date is Friday, November 29 ) the parade steps off at 6:30pm from the Lutheran church. It crosses the Mill Street Bridge, turns east at Washington Street, heads north on Chicago Street, then heads back west on Madison to County Market. The parade features both professional floats and floats created by local organizations and businesses. And we'd be remiss to not mention the most important aspect of the parade: Santa! The light up parade marks Santa's first visit to Pontiac this holiday season. He'll ride through the parade route to it's completion. After the parade is finished he'll return to the Santa House (located on Madison Street north of the courthouse) to visit with any children waiting for him. Regular hours in the Santa House are posted on the exterior doors. He will be here in Pontiac Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings November 30-December 21.
Show Bus
Have you seen the Show Bus driving around the area but aren't sure who can ride it or where it goes? Here's your answer! The Show Bus is a fully accessible public transportation option. Anyone can ride. Fares vary depending on the route but those age 60 and older are not required to pay fares due to a federal grant. Bus routes include city to city routes (ie Fairbury to Pontiac or Saunemin to Bloomington) and hourly stops in Pontiac.
