POP UP CHEMISTRY WON AN AWARD!
The American Chemical Society (ACS) held its 23rd annual ChemLuminary Awards on October 21 during National Chemistry Week, and the Silicon Valley Section of ACS received an award for “Most Creative & Innovative Use of the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week theme” for its partnership with Redwood City Public Library on pop-up virtual chemistry programs during the pandemic. The 2020 theme was “Protecting Our Planet Through Chemistry,” and ACS Silicon Valley prepared activity materials for drive-up distribution to Library customers about "earth-friendly plastics" and "(re)cycling water," created a video demonstrating the experiments, and hosted a Zoom event with 4th-7th graders to explain the science while students conducted experiments in the safety of the homes.

The Library is very proud of this partnership to teach kids in our community about chemistry and environmental sustainability. A happy younger sibling of a participant in the Pop Up Chemistry series sent the featured photo to Library staff.

For our next Pop Up Chemistry event, pick up a materials kits November 8- November 12. Then join us live on Saturday, November 13 from 2-3pm over Zoom. More info here
