Cheer Commands the Spotlight on Monday at Nationals

With football teams taking a rest day before the second round of games, Monday belonged entirely to the athletes who brought the spark, strength, and showmanship of Pop Warner Cheer & Dance to center stage. Inside the Charlotte Convention Center, the energy was electric from the first routine to the final awards announcement, with athletes lighting up the floor and fans filling the arena to support their young athletes. 

The day was packed with standout performances across Show Cheer Level 2 teams (JV, V B age divisions). From high-flying stunts to heartfelt dance routines, teams gave everything they had, and the scores reflected the excellence on display.

Pop Warner crowned 11 Cheer & Dance National champions on Monday, including Kensington Ravens Royal Divas, Delran Bears, St Cloud Bulldogs, St Johns PAL Warriors Gold, Hillsborough Dukes, Mt Hope Cowboys Royal Stars, Milford Jr Spartans Midnight Reign, Edison Jets Red, Wayne Wildcats, Fishhawk Wolfpack, and Rockford Titans. A Legacy in Navy and White: How One Medford Family Came Full Circle at Nationals

In 1988, a young cheerleader named Michelle Baker from Massachusetts pulled on her Medford Colts uniform and joined the program that would shape so much of her childhood. She spent those years learning the value of teamwork and tradition – never imagining that decades later, she would return to the same organization as a coach, this time watching her own daughter take the national stage. However, the path to that moment was anything but easy.

Fast forward to 2019. Michelle’s daughter, Brynn, was a member of the Winchester Sachems Mitey Mite team, just beginning to fall in love with cheerleading the way her mom once did. She loved every part of the experience – the energy of game days and competitions, the friendships, and the simple joy of being part of a team. But late that September, everything changed when Brynn suffered a traumatic lawnmower accident, leaving her with a fractured skull. [Read more…]
