POPE JOHN PAUL II REGIONAL CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 
Lenten Journey Begins
         Students participated in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during 40 Hours Devotion and also celebrated Ash Wednesday mass at St. Peter Church. Other  activities planned include: weekly stations of the cross, a collaborative artwork Cross project assembled with each student's written act of kindness, sacrifice or service, the annual collection of sundry items for the IHM Sisters at Camilla Hall and a Mission Dance sponsored by students in grades five and six. 

 
STREAM Expo Winners 
 
PJP II's inaugural STREAM Expo was a huge success. The top three overall teams from grades 5-8 have been invited to showcase their projects at the Archdiocese of Newark's STEM Expo in April. Many thanks to our teachers who inspired and supported the students in preparing for this year's Expo and to our judges for investing their time to interview and judge the projects.  PJP II students are ready to change the world!  

  


Grandparents Day  
       Students in Kindergarten and First Grade welcomed grandparents to   Grandparents Day. The day included special activities, photos, songs, stories and refreshments.  Tours of the school were also provided by 7th grade students.  It was a very heartwarming day! 

100 Days of School 
       
PreK and Kinder students celebrated 100 days of school with lots of fun and creative activities! Some even dressed up to celebrate this special milestone!   
Eighth Graders Awarded Scholarships 
       Congratulations to eighth graders Claire F. and Rebecca P. who were both awarded scholarships from Bishop Shanahan High School. Determined by a scholarship examination, winners must score in the 90th percentile. Only 10 renewable scholarships are awarded each year to 8th graders enrolling at BSHS.  In addition, Rebecca was selected as one of 25 students from Chester County to participate in a health care intensive being offered at Paoli Hospital over the summer. Rebecca aspires to be a Cardiothoracic surgeon. Congrats and best of luck to Claire and Rebecca on their new endeavors! 

Spring Fundraisers and Events 
The Kids Spring Outgrown Sale is looking for consignors from the PJP and parish communities of  St. Peter, Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Joseph(Coatesville) and Our Lady of Consolation. Alumni are also welcome to join. If interested in consigning on SaturdayMarch 23rd, please click  here  for registration and seller guidelines. The sale will be open to the public from 9-12pm. 

  The Dash for Cash kicked off this year's event with a school wide pep rally. This year's theme is " Take Me Out to the Ball Game" with each homeroom representing an MLB team. Students will collect pledges to support their walk/run on April 29th.  Fun prizes will be awarded to the top classrooms and students who raise the most money and complete the most laps. Business sponsors will again  have an opportunity to have their name or logo printed on the back of the
t-shirts worn by the students. The event is looking to surpass last year's goal of more than $40,000. For more information or to make a pledge online, please click here.  Proceeds will support student programs. Thank you for your support! 

The 8th Annual Scholarship Fund Golf Outing to support tuition assistance for PJP students is set for Wednesday, 
May 15th at the Downingtown Country Club.  The format will be a scramble, offering even the most casual and novice golfer, a chance to play. In addition to raffle items, a skee putt, longest drive and closest to the pin contest, there will be a chance to win a new car! 9am start time. The first annual Community Egg Hunt and Activity Day  is set for Saturday, April 6th from 10-12pm. The day will include crafts, an egg hunt and refreshments and is open to all children in the community age 5 and under. For more information and to register online, please click here
Save the Date! 
Thank you to all who supported this year's  Silent Auction and Monte Carlo Night  which raised more than $38,000 for th e school's new STEM program and enhancements to technology infrastructure.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 16th, 2019  to enjoy another great evening filled with bidding, betting and fun! 
 

Spelling Bee 
Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Coatesville Area District Spelling Bee! Contestants included(back row): Thomas B., Gregory P., Eva G., and Sophia D. (front row): Braden R., Alexandra A., George S., Aaron M., and Adam P. Special congratulations to George who took first place for 5th grade! 

Jr. National Honor Society
Eighth grader Claire F. and Jimmy P. were inducted into Bishop Shanahan's Jr. National Honor Society this year. Students are recommended based upon four criteria: leadership, scholarship, character and service. Congrats to both! 
Band and Choir Honors 
Several students were selected to perform at the Archdiocesan Choral Concert this  year. They will perform at Archbishop Wood High School in March. 
Honor Choir members(7th and 8th grades): Natalie S., Claire F., Keira S., Lauren D., Colton B., Jimmy P., and Addison E. 

Students who auditioned and were selected for the Archdiocesan Honor  and Jazz Bands include: Katie H., Jimmy P., and Evelyn W. They will perform at several venues including the Capitol Building in Harrisburg in March. 

Repeat for Cheer Team 
   The Saints Cheer Squad took first place at the CYO Region 17 competition. Proudly continuing the tradition! Congrats to 8th graders and All-Stars Natalie S. and Lexi H.

Alumni Part of Winning STEM Team 
 Michael Gomba and Bryce Alexis, PJP II Class of 2015, were members of the  Bishop Shanahan High School  STEM Team that placed first in the PA Governor's Regional STEM Competition (  Pennsylvania Department of Education ) for the second year in a row.   The BSHS winning device, the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Lifesaving Assistant (CRLA), improves the success rate of CPR. The CRLA portable device detects and monitors pressure and compression rates to assist administers of CPR, both trained and untrained. Congratulations to Michael, Bryce and the entire team!
