STEM Program Launches
PJP II welcomes  Mrs. Jill Wentzel to the staff who will be filling a newly created position as  STEM Coordinator . Mrs. Wentzel will be leading our K-4 students in a weekly STEM lab which will integrate science, technology, engineering, and math into engaging projects for students. Mrs. Wentzel will also be spearheading our new Middle School STEM Expo and consulting with the middle school teachers for STEM infusion across the curriculum.
In partnership with  ProjectEngin , the new STEM Expo will provide a new model of science fair that embraces a transdisciplinary
STREAM approach. Students will learn about the UN Sustainability goals and will research challenges in specific countries, mostly in underdeveloped nations. The students will work in teams to engineer a solution using appropriate technology and will be challenged to keep the end user in mind when designing their product.
Mrs. Wentzel  comes to us highly qualified for the position with a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education and an additional K-12 certification in Environmental Education, as well as a M.S. in
Geo-Environmental Studies. She is also a Project Lead the Way trained educator. Mrs. Wentzel has served in various positions within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Diocese of Harrisburg such as technology coordinator, science teacher, and honors math teacher. Welcome aboard Jill!

Class of 2018 Graduates
Sixty-four students graduated  on June 5th during a mass at St. Peter Church in West Brandywine. The theme for this year's 8th Grade Eucharistic Celebration and Commencement Ceremony was "Go Make a Difference." Father Fitzpatrick,  p astor of St. Peter Church, was the primary Celebrant. Following the mass, students were commended for academic achievements and awarded over $27,000 in scholarship money for high school. Many thanks to our benefactors and friends who further the mission of Catholic education with support at the secondary level.
Following the ceremony, graduates returned to the school for a dance to celebrate their accomplishments. Congratulations to the Class of 2018 and best wishes in your journey through High School!
Kinder Graduation
Family members and friends gathered at St. Peter Church for Kindergarten graduation. Students performed a variety of songs highlighting the spiritual, academic and social growth they experienced during the past school year. Congratulations to all our Kinder graduates....first grade here they come!
Inspiring Others to Serve
Sixth graders were moved to mission after hearing keynote speaker, Bill Monaghan, at the St. Peter Confirmation Retreat this year. Bill gave a presentation on "Building a Bridge to Uganda." After the retreat the girls met with Principal Kerins and Vice Principal Tarquinio and decided to sponsor a "Dress Down" day, for which the students make a donation to participate. The final total raised was $1.911.70!  We are very proud of these young ladies and their effort to serve those less fortunate. Building a Bridge to Uganda is a Pennsylvania 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. For more information please visit https://www.bridgetouganda.org/

CYO Track Finishes Strong
The Pope John Paul II track team concluded a very successful season at the Philadelphia Archdiocese Championship meet on June 2, hauling in 19 medals and setting 5 school records.  Ava Ceulers was crowned Archdiocese Champion in the long jump and followed that with a second-place medal in the 100 meter dash - setting a school record in the process.  The 4x200 meter relay team of Julian Haylock, Dominic Zak, Matthew Carpenter, and Michael Replogle also earned the title of Archdiocese Champions, finishing almost two full seconds ahead of the nearest competitors.  Other medal winners included Peter Jones, Sophia Ceulers, Addison Egan, Anastasia van der Steur, Arie van der Steur, Danny Pawlowski, Edwin Schofield, Jaden Evans, Aidan Civitella, Kira Doran, Isabelle Benninghof, Arden McErlean, and Ryleigh Hearn.
Two weeks earlier, the Saints track team competed in the Area Championships at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.  The girls team bested 37 other teams and ran away with the team title.  The boys team finished a strong 4th.  The team earned an incredible 52 medals and qualified 29 athletes for the Archdiocese Championship in the process.
It was clear early in the season that this team had talent.  In April, the Saints qualified two relay teams for the Penn Relays finals by finishing among the top 9 teams in the Philadelphia Archdiocese out of 117 schools.  The junior boys team of Julian Haylock, Aidan Civitella, Mac Civitella, and Dominic Zak and the senior girls team of Ava Ceulers, Ryleigh Hearn, Keara Last, and Grace Jones represented PJP II well in front of 20,000 fans at Franklin Field in Philadelphia in the finals.
Congratulations to the entire PJP II Track team for an outstanding 2018 season and to Coach Schmidt and his staff for their commitment and support to our student athletes!
