Going Far Not Fast

During late September, the P&A office is bustling. Seniors are feeling busy to say the least as they stretch their limits to accommodate campus visits, college application essay writing, SAT/ACT testing, and much more. The first semester of 12th grade is definitely  a stress ful time for families. It is during the peak of college application season when I am reminded of the wisdom in this African proverb:

"If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together."

The message that I hope families take away from this quote is that regardless of how long your to-do list may be, the best way to ensure that all of your obligations are fulfilled is to make time to connect with loved ones along the way. Nourishing relationships with friends and family provide us with strength and encouragement and help us stay grounded during a time of uncertainty. The college application process can lead students and parents on a winding road of ups and downs. The journey is always most successful for families when they are in good company. Strike a balance between working hard in the college application process and finding the support you need in your family, your school and in your community. Recognize your limits and honor them. Good luck in the coming weeks and remember that our door is always open.

All the Best,
