"NGT Motorsport is a super family," Kaimer said. "I have a home in Miami right by the shop and I can go down there and torture them and play with the race car a bit - it's perfect. We just have fun. Ramez and Sylvia are great at putting people together and it makes the race weekends very pleasurable."
Kaimer is currently leading in points in the Gold class 188-182 over
Roman De Angelis. His NGT teammate and 2016 IMSA Scholarship Winner, Victor Gomez IV, is in third place in the Gold class with 176 points earned through 12 rounds of racing.
"Victor is a fast young man just at the beginning of his career," Kaimer said. "He's a hardworking and fantastic teammate. His father owns and operates multiple car dealerships in Puerto Rico, including Porsche dealerships, so it's a perfect fit for them."
To date, Kaimer has gotten faster at every track he returns to each year. He says this type of progress pushes him to keep racing.
"I race half because I'm competitive but half because I just like the sport and history of racing," Kaimer said. "The 911 Cup car is fantastic - these cars are bulletproof. It's a great learning tool to use the data and professional coaching to get better and better."
Kaimer, who lives in Austin, is a Porsche 911 enthusiast. He owns an extensive collection of vintage Porsches, including both race and street cars. Kaimer owns an industrial distribution company and has a wife, Mary, and 5-year-old son named Ren.
"The only cars Ren points out on the highway are 911s," Kaimer joked. "We might have to get him into karting someday, but we will see how his schooling goes first."
"The IMSA weekends are great because it's a multi-class event - everyone who runs in the series has been exemplary, and they keep the competition clean and even for everybody," Kaimer said. "The fun thing for me coming from vintage racing where nobody drives the same cars, to IMSA where everyone is driving the same car, is that I have improved my driving skills significantly."
"I recently purchased a 2018 car so next year will see me battling my old [Platinum] Masters friends once again - I can't wait!"
