Port Authority Financing Helps American Posts Strengthen Manufacturing Operations

Since its founding in 2005, American Posts has built a strong reputation as a leading steel manufacturer in Toledo. Today, the company is the only remaining U.S. manufacturer of steel U-posts and wire for the lawn and garden industry, producing a wide range of products used in security, telecommunications, fencing, signage, tree staking, and other commercial applications.

After securing a $1,000,000 loan through the Port Authority’s Ohio Regional 166 Loan Program, American Posts invested in a new Tube Mill System that significantly expands its in-house manufacturing capabilities. Combined with financing from Waterford Bank and borrower equity, the $2.76 million project created six new jobs while positioning the company for continued growth.

For more than a decade, American Posts has successfully expanded and diversified its tubing customer base. However, much of its tube conversion work has been outsourced, increasing production costs and limiting the company’s ability to control scheduling and lead times. By bringing this process in-house, the new Tube Mill System allows the company to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and respond more quickly to customer demand.

"This investment is about much more than adding equipment—it is about strengthening American manufacturing," said David Feniger, President of American Posts. "The Tube Mill System allows us to bring a critical manufacturing process in-house, giving us greater control over quality, lead times, and costs while creating new jobs here in Northwest Ohio. We are grateful to the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and Waterford Bank for their partnership in helping us make this investment. Their support enables us to continue growing our business, serving our customers more effectively, and reinforcing our commitment to manufacturing high-quality steel products in the United States."

The investment also strengthens American Posts’ ability to compete for new business. With greater control over its production cycle, the company will be able to provide additional value-added services, improve delivery timelines, and pursue new opportunities across its growing customer base.

The project represents another example of how the Port Authority’s financing programs help local manufacturers invest in modern equipment, create jobs, and strengthen Northwest Ohio’s industrial economy.
