Port Authority Supports Meraki Salon Studio Expansion Through Energy-Efficient Financing

Meraki Salon Studio utilized the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority’s BetterBuildings Northwest Ohio (BBNWO) program to finance energy-efficient improvements to its new 2,972-square-foot location at 506 S. Lallendorf Road in Oregon, Ohio.

Meraki Salon Studio is an upscale, full-service salon offering hair, nail, and esthetic services. Owner Jennifer Cannon brings nearly 30 years of industry experience as an advanced stylist and salon owner. Cannon founded Meraki in 2020, and the business has since grown to include 11 stylists and three nail technicians.

"The Port Authority’s financing allowed me the opportunity to complete my new salon build out. When funds became tight using a traditional commercial loan, I was able to secure funding using the PACE program so I didn’t have to sacrifice things I knew would save me in the long run," said Jennifer Cannon, owner of Meraki Salon Studio. "Such as a new front door with proper insulation, interior insulation throughout as well as new HVAC and electrical upgrades that included a new service with more energy efficient lighting. These energy saving upgrades will help increase the success of my business."

The new location provides approximately twice the space of Meraki’s former facility, allowing the salon to expand its services, accommodate growing client demand, and create five new jobs. The expanded space features dedicated salon and shampoo areas, manicure and pedicure stations, three private treatment rooms, and an updated reception area.

The project included improvements to the building’s roofing, doors, HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as the installation of LED lighting, and is expected to generate more than $5,511 in annual utility and maintenance savings.

The Port Authority’s BBNWO program provides financing to help businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public entities implement energy-efficient improvements to their facilities. The program is designed to make energy conservation projects more accessible while helping organizations reduce energy costs and improve the efficiency of their buildings.
