During the first Commission meeting of the year, the Board elected its slate of officers. Jerry W. Allender will serve as Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board, winning in an unanimous vote. A representative for District 1 since January 2011, the Titusville attorney also served previously as a Commissioner from 1983 to 1994.

John 'Hank' Evans, selected as Vice-Chairman for 2015, has served for two years from District 2 and is a Titusville resident who has practiced law since 1973. Tom Weinberg, immediate past Chairman, will be Secretary/Treasurer; the licensed realtor and former government administrator is a fourth-generation Floridian elected from District 5. Robert 'Bruce' Deardoff, a Merritt Island resident who owns several vehicle dealerships, has served on the Board from District 4 since January 2011. Wayne Justice from District 3 is new to the Board. Justice served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 37 years and retired as a two-star Admiral.

Commissioners also announced their appointments of volunteer Port Ambassadors to help communicate and connect with the community. The appointees are:

Historic: Six Cruise Ships on Same Day
Cove parking reflects historic day.
The six ships with 26,000 cruise passenger movements resulted in more business for area hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions. The ships included: Carnival Liberty, Carnival Sunshine, Disney Magic, and Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, all of which are homeported at Port Canaveral. Making a port-of-call visit for the day were Royal Caribbean's ships Grandeur of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas. The next six-ship day is expected on Sunday, March 15.
New and Improved Website Debuts
The new and improved Port Canaveral website at launched on Feb. 17, providing users and smart devices with more streamlined content and easier navigation.

"Our goal across all business lines is to provide the best experience possible, and this upgrade to our website helps us achieve that goal because our website often is the first contact the public has with us," said Port Canaveral CEO John E. Walsh. "The changes we have made to our website better serve our customers, visitors, and the community. It now better adapts to the way our culture communicates in this age of smart technology."

The Canaveral Port Authority partnered with Bayshore Solutions of Tampa, Florida to redevelop the website, which now features easily identified icons representing each business line to allow users faster access to information they seek.

The new user-friendly website also offers online payment for cruise ship parking, webcasting of Port Authority meetings, and the latest port news and publications. In addition, the employment and procurement hubs have been revamped for easier use.

Walsh Named Space Coast Daily
Person of the Year

CEO John Walsh260 Citing his leadership and positive economic vision for the future, Port Canaveral CEO John Walsh has been selected as Space Coast Daily's 2014 Person of the Year.

"John was selected as the Space Coast Daily Person of the Year from a diverse and strong group of community leaders,'' said Tom Palermo, President and CEO of Maverick Multimedia Inc. and Brevard Productions, Inc.

"He was an important driving force in the Port's successful year of 2014. Together with the Port's commissioners, John was successful in generating consensus on the Port's positive direction and morale among the Port staff also has improved under his steady guidance and leadership,'' he said.

Palermo described the Port as one of Brevard's most important economic engines and represents "The New Space" in economic development for Brevard.

In reaction to the award, Walsh noted that "it is the work of a lot of people here at the Port that makes us successful. On behalf of all 217 Port Canaveral employees, it's really an honor to accept this award."
