Resolution to Support Shrimp Industry Passes

The Brownsville Navigation District (BND) Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution during a regular board meeting held Oct. 3, endorsing and supporting the shrimping industry in South Texas amid economic challenges.

The Port of Brownsville’s Fishing Harbor is home to a variety of commercial fishing vessels, including shrimp boats. Currently, the influx of imported shrimp, continued rising fuel costs and skilled worker shortages are threatening the livelihoods of local shrimpers, their families, and the sustainability of the industry.
