FREE HARBOR TOURS ARE BACK!
The Port of Oakland’s free harbor tours return this May and run through October. These 90-minute harbor excursions are narrated and conducted aboard the Blue & Gold Fleet. Tickets can be reserved on the Port’s website home page by clicking   here . Last year 3000 people joined us for the tours.

Our Commitment to Clean Air & Healthy Communities

The Maritime Air Quality Improvement Plan (MAQIP) Task Force, representing a wide-range of Port of Oakland stakeholders (tenants, trade & logistics industry, environmental justice, regulatory), convened to discuss the Port’s implementation of measures towards achieving our goal of 85% emissions reduction by 2020. As the Port completes it work on the 2020 goal, the Task Force will embark on a planning effort to reach zero emissions at the Oakland Seaport. Port of Oakland Supports Innovation Lab at Earhart Elementary School

The Port of Oakland Assistant Director of Aviation Kristi McKenney (second from left) presented  Earhart Elementary  School PTA in Alameda with a $1,500 check in support of their Innovation Lab that provides hands-on science classes for 650 students.
Earth Day Cleanup at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

Nearly 100 youth and adult volunteers collected and removed an estimated four cubic yards of trash during the Earth Day Cleanup at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. Volunteers enhanced the upland marsh habitat by pulling several tarps full of non-native plants.
Skyline High School Visits the Oakland International Airport

The Port led a tour of the Oakland International Airport for Skyline High School's Green Academy and spoke about Port related careers. Victor Cervantes, Port Associate Engineer, spoke about working on the renovations for Terminal 1, which the students saw on the tour.
Techbridge Girls Role Model Visit & Changemakers Showcase

Renu Bhatia, Port Senior Programmer and Analyst, inspired students in Techbridge Girls from West Oakland Middle School to pursue STEM careers and worked together on projects for the Changemakers Community Impact Showcase. The Port sponsored the students' Community Impact Projects as part of the Port Community Investments Program.

O akland Middle School students had a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oakland International Airport and hands-on aviation maintenance demonstrations. Thank you to our partners - Federal Aviation Administration, Southwest Airlines, Oakland Aviation Museum, Aviation Institute of Maintenance, and Oakland Fire Department for making it a successful day.
Port Day At Children's Fairyland

The Port of Oakland sponsored 250 students from the Oakland Unified School District to attend Port Day at Children’s Fairyland. Children enjoyed maneuvering the mini-crane, learning about the ecology of Middle Harbor School Park, and making scientific predictions with hands-on STEM activities.  
Community Workshop on Trucks in West Oakland

T he City of Oakland and Port of Oakland representatives presented an overview on the development of the West Oakland Truck Management Plan and shared a summary of public input from workshops 1 and 2. At this workshop, participants explored information stations and provided ideas for potential solutions on addressing the following areas: enforcement; truck parking; truck movement; signage and communication; safety and urban design; and other related information (e.g. land use & air quality). Please visit the project website for information on how to get involved at this link .

OCA-East Bay for the PickITUp Chinatown Event

The Asian Employees Association at the Port of Oakland (AEA) and their families joined OCA-East Bay for the PickITUp Chinatown event. Port staff talked about their careers during the briefings and picked up trash with student volunteers to help keep  Oakland Chinatown  clean. Thank you everyone for doing a great job.

New Workforce Development Manager
May 7, 2018

The Port of Oakland named Julina Bonilla the Workforce Development Manager in its Social Responsibility Division. In the newly-created position, Ms. Bonilla is primarily responsible for managing a workforce development program that gives local residents access to Port-related employment opportunities. She was formerly the Executive Director of the West Oakland Jobs Resource Center.

Stepping Out Stepping In

Stepping Out Stepping In (SOSI) provides fun environmental education programs for kids of every grade! We are proud to give students an opportunity to explore and learn about the natural world around them at local parks. SOSI has an array of programs taking place at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, located in the Port of Oakland along the San Francisco Bay. Each naturalist program begins with a classroom presentation at your school to orient your students on what to expect and get them excited to learn! Our programs are designed to correlate with California State Science standards.


HOW TO APPLY: 
  1. Read about the program for your grade.
  2. Find another teacher at your school (ideally from the same grade) who can team up with you. We aim to work with two classes on one field trip date to make best use of contracted bus and to maximize our capacity ~ 60 students each field trip date is our goal). 
  3. Click "Apply On-Line" to submit an application on-line. Fall applications due July 31, 2018. Spring applications due January 31, 2018.

The Port of Oakland is soliciting competitive proposals for Four Separate Food & Beverage Concessions Opportunities at Oakland International Airport. The Port of Oakland is committed to First Source Hiring and Fair Chance Hiring for this offering.

First Source hiring includes good faith efforts to hire residents from the Port’s local impact area and those who face barriers to employment. There will be a commitment to partner with local workforce agencies as referral agencies for the hiring process. Fair Chance hiring prohibits discrimination against qualified applicants based upon their criminal history. The Port supports the creation of employment opportunities for residents who had former involvement in the criminal justice system.  Click here for more information .
