Message from Don Kersey, Executive Director
As you will soon read yourself, from workforce development wins to big-name company announcements that mean great news for our region, we have been very busy at the Port of Moses Lake. Since our last newsletter, it has also been a time of strategizing how to better communicate with our stakeholders.

Within the next few months, we will be unveiling a new website with more timely information and useful tools for existing and new clients, partners, and our community. We are very excited for this upgrade.
In addition to the new website, in the coming months you'll see how the Port of Moses Lake has been, and will continue to be, the heart of aviation, manufacturing, and technology via an educational series across our social media platforms. We will also introduce you to our Commissioners and employees and the great work they do for us, our clients, and our community. If not already, we encourage you to follow the Port of Moses Lake on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Our quarterly newsletter will also continue with summary highlights of the past three months. We welcome new subscribers. Feel free to share this newsletter or how to subscribe.
Workforce Alliance Initiative
Port of Moses Lake: Established in 2019, Career Connect Washington, with support and funding from our State Legislature, provides our student youth career-geared exposure and opportunities through a partnered learning program. The Workforce Alliance, a local extension of this initiative, brings area educators, industries, and students together to learn about career opportunities we have in Grant and Adams counties. Meeting regularly since 2019, Workforce Alliance efforts are seeing notable progress while gathering momentum.
Richard Hanover, Director of Business Development at the Port of Moses Lake, said, “As our area continues to grow and expand, workforce readiness is critical to the success of our area employers.”
While more industries from across the region are hosting students and educators to their facilities, not all rural schools can easily participate.

Earlier this year, members of the Workforce Alliance went to Wilson Creek where students and teachers heard guest speakers from SGL, Chemi-con, Moses Lake Industries, and Joyson Safety Systems.

Richard said, “The Workforce Alliance is inspiring our future workforce while invigorating membership."

He concluded, "Membership is growing and the program can only further benefit from it. This effort among industry partners is ensuring we maintain the workforce readiness for our area needs.”
Thank you, Senator Warnick
Senator Judy Warnick and Representative Tom Dent
Port of Moses Lake: Back in mid-May, members from Grant County’s business community gathered at the Port of Moses Lake to say thank you to regional elected officials for their hard work this short legislative session. Honorees Senator Judy Warnick and Representative Tom Dent, were formally thanked by representatives from the Port of Moses Lake, Grant County Commissioners, and REC Silicon.

Earlier this year, Senator Judy Warnick sponsored Senate Bill 5849, a bill that provides important tax incentives key to attracting potential new solar manufacturing in Grant County.

With bi-partisan support, the bill passed while continued combined efforts of District 13 representation also secured $10 million in capital budget funding to help bring this to Grant County.

Don Kersey, Executive Director of the Port of Moses Lake, said, “Our economic development efforts extend across the region and we could not achieve our mission without the support and engagement of our state legislators.”
