I am excited to share news of progress, activities you can attend, and ways for you to get involved with PortSide NewYork!

We have two new board members, RADM Robert North (USCG retired), Levent Kemal Sadıkoğlu, and one new advisory board member Eric Wiberg.  Feel inspired?  Join us! We seek more board, advisory board and fundraising committee members. If you know FEMA policy or federal procurement rules, you can help our Sandy recovery: after years of paper chase, PortSide is approved for a FEMA Sandy Alternate Project - but it's reimbursement money. We have until November to raise $322,000, put out a bid, select vendors, finish shipyard work to make the MARY A. WHALEN more resilient - and get reimbursed.

PortSide summer programs kick off next weekend on Sunday, 5/14 at 5pm with TankerTime.
This year, TankerTime expands to include "WaterStories of the Wine Dark Sea," eg Mediterranean themes, starting with a  musician's jam.

The MARY A. WHALEN is open for s hip tours in honor of her 79th birthday on Saturday, 6/1, 10am-5pm, and you will be able to come by ferry

C heck out our summer schedule here.

I want to share big news from our home, Atlantic Basin, which is poised to change Red Hook much as it did in mid 1800's (read that history in our Red Hook WaterStories):
  • the NYC ferry service starts on June 1, right next to us! We have advocated for ferry service for years. How sweet it is!
  • Fleet Week is here for the second year over Memorial Day weekend.
  • Formula E car race will bring 40,000 people during weekend of July 15-16. We are part of their community event on Friday, July 14.
There's more news, but I don't want to swamp you!  More in my next missive. There is a teaser in the photos below.

PortSide is surging forward. Please donate to support the programs and growth! Get involved. Help us create and give better WaterStories! Thanks for your support.

Best,
