At a press conference this week, the Great Plains Food Bank announced it is forecasting 1 million fewer pounds of food to distribute to those in need during the current fiscal year, which equates to over 800,000 fewer meals. This is due to high food prices, high gas prices and historically low amounts of food currently being donated. The shortfall comes at a time when hunger impacts one in six individuals in the state of North Dakota.
To help offset this deficit, we are budgeting an unprecedented $2.2 million to purchase food this fiscal year, which is the highest in the organization's 39-year history.
While we are in the midst of our greatest challenge since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, YOU can make a difference by making a gift to help feed those in need.
