"Halloween Heroes" Costume Drive - Helping Homeless Families

The Portola Valley Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts  are joining together to help make Halloween fun for local families in need. We'll be collecting new and gently-used costumes. Beginning the week of September 19 th , collection boxes will be available in the school office and in the community. In addition, a collection drive will be held in early October.

The scouts are collecting costumes for donation to the LifeMoves. LifeMoves (formerly InnVision Network) is a local organization dedicated to helping Bay Area homeless families and individuals return to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. They have over 17 locations in Silicon Valley and serve more than 1000 homeless individuals including families, women and children every night. Last year, 97% of families and 82% of individuals in interim housing who completed their programs successfully returned to stable housing.

All kids deserve to have a costume for Halloween! Please dig through your closets and old boxes to support your community by donating a costume. Our community pulled together for a similar event in 2013 collecting more than 150 costumes!! Let's do it again!! If you prefer to donate cash, we will purchase costumes to make sure we have a wide range of sizes. Look for more details about collection points at Ormondale, Corte Madera and around PV in coming weeks.

For more information, please contact Tara Skarpaas at  [email protected]  or Lori Palazzolo at [email protected]

Creative Art for Young Children's Fall Session 2016

Creative Art for Young Children Fall Session
Portola Valley Town Center
Sept. 14-Dec. 3rd

One of my students was excited to share with me her love of Italian Art. We came up with the idea to have the kids paint the ceiling of a large cardboard box just like Michelangelo's frescos in the Sistine Chapel. How exciting is that? Then Leonardo and his Flying Machines and the Wizard of Oz will inspire us to do more art. Everything else will just fall into place as new ideas pop up, giving us plenty of things to work with. And our grand finale...An Art Show!

Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory Classes

Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory (PVTC) offers imaginative, challenging THEATRE CLASSES this fall!

PVTC's classes are open to students of all skill level, novice to experienced in Pre-K through high school. In addition to teaching acting skills, these classes build self-confidence and encourage collaboration with peers. Each week, students learn about theatre through well-loved theatre games and creative acting exercises. Students also rehearse a short play that is performed at the end of our sessions for family and friends. One of the highlights of the performance, in addition to the fact that all students get lines, is using simple costumes, props, & lighting, and performing the play on a real stage.  Our fall theme is "New Frontiers," so all of our projects will center on stories of adventure and exploration. Classes begin the week of  Sept. 12th. Register online at  www.pvtc-ca.org. Questions? Email  [email protected]
