PVSD Bookaneer Book Fair - Thank You

What an awesome week at the Book Fair. Thank you to our Cap'ns, Sarah Byrne and Erin Sanders, for running the PVSD Book Fair and transforming the MUR into a Bookaneer Treasure! 

Between the Popsicle Preview, Tuesday night Food Truck and the amazing selection of books in the MUR, this team of super volunteers went above and beyond. 

Thank you to Ysabel Jou, Eva Diez, Stacey Low, Brooke Day, Camilla Lynch, Lori Palazzolo, Carna Theron, Ginny Borelli, Moonyi Satusky, Suzanne Kavert, Leslie Monstavicius, Tara Skarpaas, Karyn Ellis, Katrina Montinola, Kristi Travers, Susan McLaughlin and Lacey Wismer for giving us your time and energy this week and for making this event such a successful fundraiser for our two libraries. Thank you to Mr. C for giving up his space, Jose for being an invaluable help, Denise for being our "how to get things done" contact and of course Ms. Suzy who was there every step of the way.

And, what better way to end the Book Fair week than with a Bagel Breakfast? A huge Thank You to Brandy Bridges for organizing the event, Camilla Lynch, and all the 1st grade parents. The Breakfast was wildly popular and was a great way to end the Book Fair.

We are so fortunate to be a part of this great school community.

Volunteers Needed for the Turkey Trot!

The Annual Turkey Trot Fundraiser for the PVSD PTO will be on Saturday November 19th from 8:00 - 11:00! 

We need volunteers for both day of the event as well as "recess training" volunteers starting in October.  Please click on the button below to see how you can help!

For those of you new to the District, or this event, the Turkey Trot is a 1K or 5K run/walk that takes place in the neighborhood surrounding Ormondale.  The event is open to all community members and PVSD families. 


Welcome New Principal, Lynette Hovland

Please join the PVSD District  this Friday in welcoming Lynette Hovland to her new role as Ormondale Principal.  Ms. Hovland is eager to meet our parents and to have an informal introduction to the Ormondale community.

There will be a yummy coffee cart, so please stop by for a latte or cap before drop off, or linger longer to meet Lynette and welcome her to the Ormondale family!

Ormondale Upcoming Events

On  Wednesday, October 5th at 10:35am , we will kick off our Cultural Arts Assemblies with Joe Odhiambo, a former NBA performer and world record-holding "trick-star." 

He will share his story of how working hard, being persistent, and believing in yourself led to his successes, while demonstrating physical skills.  Parents are welcome to join us!

Corte Madera

CMS Soccer Coach Needed!


Corte Madera School is looking for an after school sports soccer coach.  The season will begin in January and end around the middle of March.  The commitment is 3 days a week - usually Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-5:00.  Please contact Mr. Flahavan if you or someone you know is interested.

CMS Athletics - Golf!


CMS is looking for 7/8th grade golfers. This program is geared toward intermediate golfers that have the basics and would like to improve their game. We will compete in the SSIL. This program has 6 regular season matches with a championship match on April 24. Also, there will be a "Texas Scramble Tournament" on May 8th.

Portola Valley Schools Foundation
2016-17 Annual Campaign


This year we are asking our community to come together again to raise at least $900,000 to complement the District's other sources of funding for the 2016-2017 school year.  

Thanks to your support, the District is able to recruit and retain excellent teachers, provide funds to hire classroom aides and learning specialists, and offer music, art, PE, and foreign language classes.


Annual Campaign Key Dates

Friday, October 21 - "Donation Day" when lots of smiling foundation volunteers will collect your donation at drop-off lines at both schools.  Donuts will be served!  
Friday, December 16 - Last Day of the Campaign

Woodside Day of the Horse


On Saturday, October 8th 2016, Woodside will celebrate Day of The Horse with a Horse Fair at Town Hall from 10:00 am-2:30 pm. The fair showcases local horse organizations and riding programs as well educational exhibits featuring live animals, a blacksmith, art/coloring booths, various gams, activities and live music! 

Come and take a ride on the Wells Fargo stagecoach,  listen to a horse's heartbeat, watch a blacksmith shoe a horse, take a picture with a pony, decorate hose cookies, ride a pony and much more.... Join us for a carrot cake and apple juice reception.

Bats


Bats!  Join us for this free event that is both fun for kids and engaging for adults. 

This event features Corky Quirk of NorCal Bats and her rescued bat ambassadors. See up close how bats fly, eat, and use echolocation.

"Halloween Heroes" Costume Drive - Helping Homeless Families


Reminder, the Portola Valley Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts Halloween Heroes Costume Drive is collecting new and gently-used costumes in all sizes for local families served by LifeMoves.

Donations can also be made at the morning drop-off lines at the schools (Oct. 3rd-7th ).  

Collection boxes also available at Ormondale and Corte Madera School offices and at community locations including Bianchini's in Ladera. 

All kids deserve to have a costume for Halloween! Please dig through your closets and old boxes to support your community by donating a costume. If you prefer to donate cash, we will purchase costumes to make sure we have a wide range of sizes.
