District

Student Services Parent-Only Coffee on Feb. 10th

The Student Services Parent Group is a collaborative group of parents and staff dedicated to serving the unique social and emotional needs and learning differences of students in Portola Valley School District through the activities of the Student Services Group.

The 4 overarching goals of the group are

Curriculum: Ensuring that the curriculum is delivered in a way that works for each student and that the environment on each campus focuses on inclusion, where possible.

Communication: Improving communication from school to home and home to school to enhance each child's learning experience across environments.

Culture: Encouraging a culture that accepts and celebrates all children where they're at now.

Knowledge Sharing - Sharing parenting knowledge outside of the school environment,eg sports teams for kids with certain challenges, special diet knowledge, etc.

The group meets several times a year with parents and district staff and teachers. There will be a parent-only coffee facilitated by Amod Setlur (Student Services Parent Group representative for 2016-17 school year) and hosted by Sarah Wernikoff at her residence (145 Bear Gulch Drive, Portola Valley) on February 10, 2017 between 8:30 AM-9:30 AM to provide an opportunity for parents to network with other families, and to discuss what's working well and what needs improvement so the group can work collaboratively with district administration.

Important: Please RSVP sarahwernikoff@gmail.com if you plan to attend so that we may have an accurate headcount for planning purposes.

Volunteers Needed for Ormondale's Spanish Class

Ormondale's Spanish Class is looking for volunteers!!!  We are preparing for a school wide event on  March 31st, "Viajando en español". There is a lead mom in each grade for this event and we need more parents to help her and the teachers make this event run smoothly.

Each classroom will represent a Spanish speaking country. Students with their passports will travel around Spanish speaking countries. In each country (classroom) students will be able to learn a bit about that country, make a craft, taste some food, play a game, and more.

If you have any questions about "Viajando en Español" please talk to the lead mom in your grade, stop by room 1, or e-mail Shenny Covotta  scovotta@pvsd.net

There are few spots available to be filled.   Here is the link to sign up and the basic info about the job:

CORTE MADERA SCHOOL HOT LUNCH SCHEDULE

If you have not worked hot lunch, please give a try.  Time goes by fast during the lunch and you don't need to prep for this job outside of school, once you leave the campus you are done! You can also volunteer as little as one day per month!

This job is much easier if there are 2 volunteers on site, and it makes it more fun.  Even if your kids don't participate in the Hot Lunch program, you are welcome to help out.

Portola Valley Schools Foundation
2017 Foundation Spring Benefit - Save the Date

Save the Date!
FANfare Spring Benefit
Saturday, April 22, 2017

This spring's "FANfare" will mark the start of a new tradition as we're planning a fun, laid back event the whole community will enjoy right on the tented grounds of Corte Madera  with beautiful Windy Hill as the backdrop.

Highlights include:
  • Farm-to-table themed, sit-down dinner
  • Open bar and craft cocktails (no drink tickets!)
  • Live music and dancing
  • Sign-up parties for adults and kids
  • Exciting raffles
  • Live Auction culminating in the Fund-a-Need (FAN) paddle raise
Fund-a-Need:   EngageSpace
This year, the school leadership chose "EngageSpace" as the Fund-a-Need (FAN) - the  special, donation-only, paddle raise held during the Live Auction.

Please join us to raise money for "Engagespaces" -  natural, organic and modular upgrades to both Ormondale and Corte Madera's  outdoor play facilities.

The concept leverages local architects and past investments in the schools' infrastructure (such as MakerSpace) with envisioned child-led design. The concept was chosen in light of gaps at our schools' play facilities as well as research showing students don't just crave physical activity, they actually learn better when they're more engaged in the school's outdoor spaces.

Click here for more information  on the FANfare Benefit  and the EngageSpace.
