Spring Has Sprung!
FOOD
GRAB & GO LUNCH - Spring Special - FREE
Thursday, April 15. Pick up between 11am-11:30am
RSVP Required by April 9

The Senior Activity Center has partnered with the Meals on Wheels program to offer a monthly Grab & Go hot lunch. Spring special is ham, asparagus and swiss quiche with red bliss potatoes, summer squash, roll and a spiced honey cake. The senior center is paying the $3 per meal donation so you don't have to.

  • When picking up meal staff will be wearing a mask and we will put the food in the passenger side door or back seat. We ask that you wear a mask as well.
  • This is a monthly lunch series. June 17 will be a Father's Day Special of "Big Daddy Cheese Burger".
2nd GRAB & GO LUNCH – Stuffed Shells - FREE

Because of your wonderful participation, we're offering a 2nd grab & go with our meal partner, Rockingham Nutrition. Thank you for helping to make our food program a success!
Stuffed shells with marinara sauce, broccoli and vanilla pudding for dessert.

ACTIVITIES 
Brinn's Stretch Class - FREE
Wednesdays in April 10:00-10:45am by Zoom (not in person, yet)
45-min class dedicated to light stretching from head to toe. Seated or standing position, whichever is most comfortable to you. We'll end the class with a nice breathing exercise.
Class is on Zoom so we'll be able to see the movements and Brinn will walk you through each step.

April Walking Challenge
April 1 - 30
New in 2021! It’s been a cold winter and we’re ready to get outdoors and hit the sidewalks and trails around Portsmouth. All ages are encouraged to participate.
 
Challenge: As of April 1, start logging your walks. Keep track of your minutes and/or miles and submit it by April 30. We’ll announce winners from a variety of categories. Walking log found by CLICKING HERE.
 
Tools: Walking log and Trail list (it's a work in progress and we welcome your additions)
 
Here's how it works:
1. Individuals or families sign up by emailing [email protected] or calling 603-610-4433
2. The program runs from April 1 – April 30
3. All ages are encouraged to participate.
5. At the end of the challenge, submit your walking journal by May 3 and you are entered to win a prize. Winners announced May 5.

Drumming - A World of Percussion
April 26 - June 21
8-Mondays, 10:30am-12:00pm
Students onsite at Portsmouth Senior Activity Center (with classroom aid)Teaching Artist: Brian Shankar Adler (Instructor is by Zoom)
Ages: 55 yrs and older
Dates: April 26 - June 21 (no class May 31). Final performance June 21 at noon

Registration is for the entire series - 8 weeks. Students will be seated in room with their drum (provided) and the classroom attendant will make sure everyone has what they need and manage the Zoom with instructor. Masks are required to be worn.

Age of Champions - Virtual Health & Wellness Fair

The 2021 Age of Champions Healthy Aging Fair will be hosted virtually with daily workshops, speakers, resources, and activities Monday-Friday, April 19-23.
Join us one or every day to celebrate a different area of wellness: intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Event is free and open all adults ages 50+.

Wildlife Ambassador Meeting Every Wednesday
Wednesdays 10:00-10:30am - FREE
Join Maine's Center for Wildlife for a morning meeting with Wildlife Ambassadors on Facebook Live every Wednesday at 10am. Our educators will highlight one of our amazing wildlife creatures discussing their personal stories & their species and answer your questions live. Enjoy discovering (virtually) the wildlife that are emerging for spring. Be inspired by the resilience of our wild neighbors and learn how we can support them!
AARP TAX AIDE VOLUNTEERS
AARP Tax Aide packets are available outside the senior center 24/7 for pick up.
Directions included in packet. If once you pick up the packet, read the instructions completely and you still have questions, please call 603-205-2646.

Packets are in a box under the canopy that is out front of the building. Easy pull up and pick up location. Instructions next to box.
PORTSMOUTH HISTORICAL SOCIETY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
The Portsmouth Historical Society (PHS) is seeking volunteers for the welcome center and gallery docents for the 2021 season. Opening day is Thursday, April 1st. Hours of operation are 10 am to 5 pm. The two exhibitions this spring are Don Gorvette: Working Waterfronts & Twilight of American Impressionism. PHS is seeking two docents for the gallery on weekends with two shifts to choose from. The other options in the welcome center to greet people and help them with information regarding events, walking maps, and historical sites. 
Current C-19 protocols remain in place to keep everyone safe while enjoying our buildings and exhibits.
