Poser YOGA Newsletter
It takes days for me to put these newsletters together, and it just so happens that I'm finally ready to send it out... and it's Mother's Day! I want to personally extend love and hugs to ALL moms, aunties, grandmas, sisters, nieces, and friends; to everyone who HAS a mom; especially to my mom who lives to far away in Ontario, Canada, and to Rita, whom I'm lucky to see almost every day. I hope you all feel loved, and get to spend this day surrounded by those who are special to you, even if it's by holding them close to your heart.
It can be extremely challenging to keep up with a regular practice during the summer months -- the weather is beautiful, the kiddos are out of school, and schedules fall by the wayside. Last minute getaways, bonus hours of daylight, extra socializing, and sport partaking soak up all your spare time, and then there's nothing left for YOU!

Well... that's not fair!

The thing is, if you don't take care of yourself, EVERYONE suffers. We can only avoid self-care for so long, and then we're accidentally taking our frustrations out on the poor service clerk who happens to be assisting us, the barking dogs nest-door (or their ' neglectful ' owners!), our kids who won't stop their nonsense, our friends who are only trying to help, our partner who has no idea what's gotten into us, etc, etc, etc....

Sound familiar? And guess what? You're not alone.

We all know how beneficial it is to keep up with a regular Yoga practice, and it's even more beneficial to maintain this consistency throughout the summer months. It's amazing, how even one class a week can help keep us grounded, steady, and easy going. Just by making that small gesture towards ourselves; by requesting that all other things be put aside for one hour; by taking some time to let go of all things external and instead tune INWARDS... we can experience huge shifts in our well-being.

And if you're still not convinced, or you're busy listing all the reasons why you "can't make it to class", think of the alternative. Who might you unintentionally snap at, only to feel regretful and perhaps a little resentful towards, later??

If nothing else, consider your yoga practice an act of community service . :)

On that note... we have an extraordinary summer special you're going to LOVE! Plus, we have some pop-up classes taking place around town, our annual customer appreciation day, plus some other fun activities to keep you actively participating at the studio... (Also, if you're curious, s croll all the way down to the bottom to see what we've been up to these past few months!)

We truly DO look forward to seeing you periodically throughout the summertime, and we hope that you'll keep up with your practice. Even better, support your friends to keep at it too! Let's all stay motivated and inspired together!

With lots of Yoga-Love,
Your Poser YOGA Team -xo

KIDS' Yoga incorporates elements of art, music, dance, and FUN into various games, activities and traditional yoga poses. Children will develop strength, flexibility, co-ordination, and interpersonal skills like co-operation and sharing space. They will also explore another important benefit of Yoga - the art of stillness & mindfulness.
I had many old ideas about Yoga. I thought it required more of me than I was capable of delivering – athleticism, flexibility, concentration skills, etc. I thought I would hurt myself if I contorted into those crazy poses. I thought Yoga was for young skinny people. On my own, I would not have enrolled in Yoga classes. So, when my dear friend JoAnn called me and said, “ Hey, I’m gifting you three Yoga classes. Come to the beginner’s class with me. It’ll be fun !” I’m not certain why but I just said, “ Yes ”.

OK. Look, you have no more excuses. You have no scheduled deadlines or commitments, and you don’t have to be in your shop this morning. You have to go to Yoga with me… now!
That is how I started in Yoga: coerced, cajoled, however I may want to describe the conversation that led to an incredible change in my life. It came from a dear friend who cared for my well-being. She became my mentor for Yoga. I had been dedicated to backpacking and mountain biking my entire adult life.

The other day I was filling out an application to attend a work related training that specializes in helping people overcome job related stress and trauma. The application asked to list any specialized training that I had that could be useful for the position. I listed my yoga teaching and practice, including how long I’ve been doing both when it suddenly dawned on me that I’ve been practicing yoga for 18 years! 18 years! While it may not seem like that big of a deal to some, the fact that I’ve been dedicated to anything for that length of time truly amazes me. You see… I’m one of those types of people who has spent a lifetime searching for some greater purpose whether it be an educational degree, a rewarding career, a fulfilling workout regime, or a place of residence that I can truly feel at home in. I have wanted to be an actress, a forensic scientist, a helicopter pilot, and have lived in many different parts of the country and even world.

How did I come to yoga, and stick with it for two plus years? I had dabbled in yoga, first after I graduated from college and moved to Port Angeles, and then a few years ago at the school where I taught before I retired. Both of those experiences were fairly short-lived, but the idea of practicing yoga didn’t go away. I believe I liked the  idea  of practicing yoga, and once I began going to yoga class, I realized that yoga is much harder than it looks.
My son’s girlfriend, a dedicated practitioner, invited me to my first class at Poser Yoga. I think she paid for my attendance that day, but I’m not really sure. Downward Dog absolutely killed me – trouble getting into the pose, shaking arms, desperate thoughts, and that was just the first one that day! However, I went back. I’m kind of surprised I did, to be honest, because the physical part of yoga wasn’t all that much fun.

Regarding multi-class passes:
If you purchase a multi-class pass, you enter into a student/studio agreement; a cheaper rate per class, with the expectation that you'll use the pass within a certain duration. Please take into consideration the length of time you have to use each specific pass and whether that suits your lifestyle. We all know that a regular Yoga practice is  ideal, and if you can make the commitment to  yourself, then by all means, commit to a multi-class pass. Whichever pass you choose, please take note of
your expiration dates, and enjoy getting your Yoga ON!!
For more info, visit our webpage on  Pass Extensions

Regarding class etiquette:
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for class. Allow for time to check in and make payments, if necessary. Class starts promptly, and ends promptly too! Let's all respect each other's time and things will move smoothly! when you arrive, make sure you and confirms you're checked in!
One other thing to mention: We urge you to be aware of the scents you are bringing into the studio with you. Strong body odours and fragrances can be very overpowering, especially since mindful breathing is such an important aspect of our Yoga practices. Err on the side of plain, simple hygiene and save your shpritzing for after class.

Workshop Cancellation & Refund Policy:
Workshops are specialty classes taught outside of our regular schedule. These classes are often one-time offerings and we go to extra lengths to put together unique experiences for our students. As we are limited in space, often our events sell out, leaving many who don't get the chance to attend. Please be mindful when you sign up, and timely if you need to cancel, so we can give others ample time to make room in their schedule to take your place.
You are eligible for a full refund if you cancel 7 days or more before the workshop start date. We are unable to offer refunds or credits for cancellations within 7 days of your workshop start date. There are also no refunds or credits for failure to attend or failure to complete the workshop.
Members, please be considerate when canceling free/gifted classes as it could result in being
charged the full ticket price.
