Editors note: Opportunity in crisis
To speak of efficiency benefits of geospatial and construction information solutions in the midst of an energy crisis which fails to produce even basic services would be remiss of me. But it is worth remembering our human capability to adapt, a driver of exploration and discovery, our creativity which helps us create and find solutions, and our ability to communicate, which allows us to share and build collective knowledge.

One man's loss is another's gain. There are opportunities in any crisis, and those who identify and seize upon them stand to benefit. Geospatial and construction information solutions such as GIS and BIM provide the key capabilities we need to adapt, be creative and share knowledge. Our country's current crisis could force the situation in favour of skilled and creative geospatial and construction professionals who can realise new value and opportunity. For years these technologies have been showcased as useful tools in crises – now’s the time to practice what we preach.
