Flooding Along Wolf River Impacts Menominee Reservation

Flooding along the Wolf River has affected parts of the Menominee Reservation over the past week, adding to statewide challenges as communities across Wisconsin dealt with rising waters, threatened dams, and road closures.

A combination of factors contributed to the flooding, including rapid snowmelt from late-season storms that dropped several feet of snow, and a stalled frontal system that produced repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms on April 13 and 14. Earlier in the month, the region also endured back-to-back freezing rain events on April 2 and 3, which caused power outages and left the ground saturated before the heavier rains arrived.

Most of the storms moved through during the evening and overnight hours of April 13–14, though intermittent rainfall in the days prior had already pushed water levels higher.

Identifying specific needs within the community and creating actionable goals to meet those needs is at the heart of Strategic Planning.

During the Plan’s creation, seven vision areas were defined to help identify specific needs within the Menominee Tribe.

Separating these goals into more general vision areas makes it easier to determine which departments and committees should lead each specific initiative, ensuring that each vision area is getting the most relevant and experienced attention.
