“Live, the band’s synth-pop got an indie rock punch-up, eliciting a melodic, staccato vocal tic in singer Sammy Elfanbaum akin to a young Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.”

Today, Nashville-based indie rock outfit, Post Sex Nachos, release their fifth full-length album Big Bad via SoundOn. This time around, the band put the greatest emphasis on being intentional and collaborative. Speaking to that level of collaboration, BAILEN, MARIS and Annelise Gonzalez are featured across some of the album’s songs.

Named after the recurring villain in tabletop gaming, Big Bad is about staying positive when you’re up against the undercurrents of chaos and change. Balancing humor with unfiltered emotion and pairing infectious energy with deeply personal storytelling, the Aaron Wagner produced LP is available everywhere today — Stream / Order on vinyl.

Singer Sammy Elfanbaum shared, “‘Big Bad’ is the first label-backed album by Post Sex Nachos, which is somewhat ironic as most of the songs are about the late-stage capitalism that’s ruining our country and the rest of the world. Outside of clamoring about the music industry and what it takes to succeed, there are also songs about love, change and loss scattered throughout the record. The group has gone through some big life events in the past few years, and a lot of those corresponding feelings are put on display for the listener. If you’re looking for a complete release of pent-up anxiety, this record is for you!”

Call it maximalist, or call it emotional hoarding, the album’s standout track is appropriately titled “Junk.” Buoyant and bass-driven, PSN are self-reflective with a message that extends beyond just them.

Elfanbaum says that the song is, “about reluctantly holding onto all of the pieces of yourself that have made you what are. This includes your mistakes and trauma, the things that are hard to accept but are nonetheless part of you. Hopefully you can take these as lessons and make yourself better.”

The Big Bad North American Tour officially kicks off next week with a hometown show at Nashville’s Basement East. The tour will move from coast to coast through early November, with the final show in Chicago. Along the way, PSN will be supported by Fetch Tiger, Scarlet Demore, The Foxies, Hana Eid and Hannah Geller. See all upcoming tour dates here and below.

PRAISE FOR BIG BAD

UNDER THE RADAR “Nashville-based outfit Post Sex Nachos make a bright and hooky style of indie rock, leaning towards the genre’s polished and melodic side but with an added dose of irrepressible energy.”

IDOBI “With glistening indie melodies, euphoric choruses, and groovy basslines, this is exactly the indie act you need to listen to right now, and it doesn’t hurt that they have an unforgettable band name.”

MUSIC CONNECTION “Between the anxiety anthems, the friendship ballads, and at least one guaranteed cry, Big Bad is Post Sex Nachos at their most honest.”

ATWOOD MAGAZINE “It’s the sound that’s brought fans back year after year and invited new listeners to stay: Thoughtful, honest (and sometimes heartbreaking) lyrics matched with an upbeat indie-rock instrumental.”

OFF THE RECORD “Midwest indie-pop darlings Post Sex Nachos have spent the last few years proving they possess some of the sharpest songwriting instincts in the modern underground.”

THE INDY REVIEW “The band uses their witty story telling, new approach to songwriting, and artist collaboration to introduce us to the newly improved, ‘big bad’, Post Sex Nachos. Blending rock, punk, pop, and synth, Big Bad produces songs that sound different, yet similar.”

WITH GUITARS “From there, Post Sex Nachos balanced dance-floor instincts with sharp songwriting, weaving together flashes of roller-rink disco, lively guitar-and-keyboard interplay, and understated white-boy funk. Their live show stripped away some of the glossy production found on the studio recordings, replacing it with the immediacy of a live band, giving the tunes extra weight without

sacrificing their bounce.”

ABOUT POST SEX NACHOS:

Midwest indie rock outfit Post Sex Nachos turn life’s heaviest feelings into something you can dance to, blending genre-bending energy with humor, heart, and emotional honesty.

Comprised of Sammy Elfanbaum, Chase Mueller, Hunter Pendleton, Mitch Broddon and Jack Hazel, the band has built a devoted following through explosive live shows, major festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Summerfest and Mile of Music, and sold-out headline dates across every region in America. Along the way, they’ve shared stages with Ripe, Allen Stone, Valley, The Strumbellas, The Runarounds, and more.

Following the success of their EP Booster Pack — featuring “SOS,” which reached #1 most spun on SiriusXM Alt Nation and entered the Top 50 on the alternative radio charts — the band now enters a bold new chapter with their forthcoming full-length album Big Bad, due out September 18.

Featured in Earmilk and Under the Radar, the album showcases a more refined and cohesive sonic identity across singles like “A Lot To Lose (feat. BAILEN),” “Sound of You,” and more music to come.

The process was their most collaborative to date, with instrumental ideas coming from across the band before lyrics and top lines were layered in, resulting in a project that feels unified, intentional, and true to who they are. Big Bad fully embraces the band’s identity, balancing humor with unfiltered emotion while pairing infectious energy with deeply personal storytelling.

With the release of Big Bad, Post Sex Nachos continue their rise with a North American Fall Headline Tour kicking off September 25 at The Basement East in Nashville and wrapping November 7 at Bottom Lounge in Chicago.
