Don’t panic over stock market volatility
Currently, markets are poised to extend their period of correction based on global events. Understandably, the news about the downward direction of the stock market may cause you to feel some anxiety and confusion.
But watch your emotions. Despite our best intentions to act rationally, basic impulses and emotional responses can influence our decisions, often against our better judgment.
Given the news this week a lot of people are asking, “how do we continue our campaigns and planning in the middle of global pandemic?” Social distancing doesn’t have to stop union power! We will continue to be in communication with one another via email, video conferencing, phone calls and texts. We at Region 3 are also available to help you reschedule meetings via zoom or conference call if your local needs it!

We also need to be in communication now more than ever regarding what Region 3 districts are doing in response to the virus. Some districts are offering unlimited sick time, and some have yet to issue a statement to staff. Locals should review district pandemic plans NOW (search your Board of Education policies) and demand to meet and confer over issues arising from almost imminent school closures - in particular how instructional time will be made up and how employees will be compensated.

Most importantly, be safe! Wash your hands. Avoid contact with those most at risk. If you experience any symptoms, please self-quarantine. If you need to self-quarantine, but are being pressured to report to work, please contact Region 3 for assistance.
