As the leaves change and the weather starts turning, we find ourselves at the threshold of a new school year, brimming with anticipation and excitement. The PACE Division summer newsletter is here to accompany you on this journey of growth, learning, and exploration.
We'll dive into the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead, shedding light on the innovative initiatives and collaborative endeavors that define the essence of our division. As we immerse ourselves in these narratives, we invite you to be inspired, to engage, and to be an active participant in the unfolding narrative of the PACE Division.
I would like an opportunity to debrief all of our members on the work that has been taking place in the PACE Division over the summer months.
In the spirit of collaboration that marks this time of year, we encourage you to connect, converse, and collaborate with your fellow members. Together, we form a community that thrives on the exchange of ideas, the celebration of progress, and the collective drive to shape a brighter future.

Newly Elected PACE VP Begins Onboarding
Strategic transition requires a delicate balance between preserving the core values that define us and embracing the possibilities that lie ahead. In the coming months, you can expect a multifaceted approach to ensure that our newly elected Vice President, Ms. Shawn Freie is onboarded with a strategic and thoughtful approach.
As we transition, we have a unique opportunity to infuse fresh perspectives and ideas into our division. Together, we will explore new avenues, seek out emerging trends, and harness innovation to drive our initiatives.
Ms. Shawn Freie began the inception of her role during the Board Meeting sessions at the National Policy Seminar in March of 2023. During this time Shawn and I discussed planning the FY24 budget and reviewing PACE’s Strategic Plan. We continue to jointly work on these endeavors.
As many of you know Shawn stepped into the role of the National PACE Awards Chairperson during FY21. She continues to work hard to complete her responsibilities for this upcoming VISION National Conference. She will be working closely with John Noel, as he will begin assuming this role during the PACE Opening Session at VISION 2023.
This is an exciting juncture for PACE, and I am genuinely honored to lead the way in this strategic transition. I am committed to maintaining the unity and collaborative spirit that define our community. Effective communication, open dialogue, and inclusivity will be at the forefront of our endeavors.My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts and ideas. Together, we will champion progress, lead with purpose, and shape the future of our division.

John Noel Named Pace New Awards Chairperson
The annual Awards presentation that takes place during the PACE Opening Session at the VISION Conference takes quite an immense amount of work and preparation.
At the inception of my own appointment as the VP for the PACE Division, Ms. Andrea Pogue held this position before it was entrusted to our incoming V.P., Ms. Shawn Freie.
Mr. John Noel, has unselfishly spent many hours during the past decade of creating the PACE Vision Blue Books. John spends many hours pouring over session details and assembling all of this information into this valuable booklet for all of our members who attend the annual VISION Conference. He hand delivers and sometimes mails these booklets to the conference location prior to the event. Needless to say, John goes above and beyond to provide this extra touch to our members, and we appreciate him immensely for doing this.
Mr. John Noel is the Business & Industry Services Director at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. He is also a former PACE Vice President.
As Ms. Shawn Freie transitions into her role as PACE V.P., Mr. John Noel will be taking over the role of the Awards Committee Chairperson. Please keep in mind that our division is always looking for interested volunteers who are willing to be actively involved.

PACE Has a New Icon
During the spring of 2022 an adhoc committee for the PACE Division was formed to discuss and provide ideas for a new PACE icon. Committee members dedicated time and thought leadership in order to bring all of their thoughts and the ideas from our division together in a unified representation of what it means to be a postsecondary sector within a national association.
This new image will be released to our membership and on the ACTE PACE website during VISION 2023.
I would personally like to thank the committee members who worked on this effort to bring everyone's ideas together.

PACE Opening Session with C.J. Wurster Presentation
One of our first endeavors as a planning committee for VISION 2023 was to identify a talented speaker that would bring valuable information to our membership.
Mr. Brian Rick suggested that we reach out to former ACTE fellow, C.J. Wurster. After meeting with Wurster, he gladly accepted our invitation to present at our opening session at VISION.
C.J. Wurster is the vice president of Academic Affairs at Phoenix College his topic will be rolling out four-year degree programs at community colleges and addressing the local economic and industry drivers.
In May 2021, following decades of advocacy, Arizona became the 24th state to pass legislation authorizing community colleges to confer baccalaureate degrees. Shortly thereafter, the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) began planning for the launch of its first bachelor’s degree programs in fall 2023. Initially, seven programs will be offered across MCCCD in the high-demand areas of education, health care, information technology, and public safety. The offering of bachelor’s degrees requires a new way of thinking within a system of 10 individually accredited colleges. Join us for a discussion about the framework that was built for collaborative visioning by leveraging existing structures to support the selection, development, implementation, and long-term sustainability of these awards to support access and equity to these opportunities for our communities. Lessons learned through this process will be shared to support your own large-scale change efforts.
We look forward to his presentation and our committee strongly believes it will hold high interest with our attending members.

CareerTech VISION 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona
Whether in person or virtually, I hope you are as excited as I am to attend ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2023 ACTE has a wonderful program planned with a combination of live sessions, recorded sessions, and many opportunities to network with colleagues. Look for details and a registration link on the following page of this newsletter.
Our PACE VISION Committee has just embarked on reviewing submitted proposals to bring you high quality sessions that are focused on post-secondary education. As we develop the content for these sessions, we will keep you up to date with periodic email blasts.
I would like to inform our members that we do have a few conference session changes this year. Please keep this information at the forefront of your planning.

PACE Division Awards
The PACE Division Awards recognize those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to CTE, programs that exemplify the highest standards and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand CTE programs. Award winners serve as inspirational leaders: they embody the core values of serving their students and being committed to CTE. Deadline details coming soon. View the full description of each award.

Postsecondary CTE Event
Join us for our annual Postsecondary CTE Summit
taking place Sept. 20–22 in Denver, Colorado.
We have three main strands:
- Exploring best practices to ensure the retention, persistence, and completion for special populations in postsecondary CTE.
- Delving into the recruitment and retention of postsecondary CTE faculty, staff, and administrators especially the diversity issues in this area.
- Revealing best practices around data collection for special populations.
Our powerful opening keynote is the chancellor of the Colorado Community College System, Chancellor Joe Garcia, and our amazing closing keynote is Josh Davies, director of Workforce at AZTEC Software LLC. You won't want to miss our pre-conference events which start with a workshop entitled: Delivering Engaging Instruction for ALL students and ends with a site visit to Emily Griffith Technical College where their culinary students will prepare a three-course meal. You won't want to miss these events!
