Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
-
Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade submitted an opinion article to The Gazette, explaining why he believes the 2C pothole tax should be renewed. This 0.57% sales tax has been in place for nine years, and potholes are still a huge problem in the city. Also, only a portion of the 2C tax revenues actually go toward potholes and paving. Around 57% of the funds go toward curb, gutter, and sidewalk repair.
-
The owner of the apartment complex in Aurora, that has been taken over by a violent gang of Venezuelans who crossed the border illegally, has taken to social media to state that, yes, it is true that Venezuelan gangs have taken over the complexes. You may have noticed that this issue has been thrust into the national spotlight due to the presidential election. Sadly, this is where we are in our country now.
-
In related news, Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky offered to show Governor Polis videos of criminal activity at the apartments where Venezuelan crime gangs are reportedly in charge. The Governor’s response was to call the police on Councilwoman Jurinsky, stating that she committed the crime of withholding evidence of a crime. This may, or may not be, related to Ms. Jurinsky’s effort to investigate whether the Polis administration and the Denver Mayor’s office purposely relocated illegal immigrants from Denver to Aurora.
-
In good news this week, the State of Colorado owes taxpayers $1.7 billion in TABOR refunds. Thanks to TABOR, the authoritarians in Denver will not be able to use this $1.7 billion to attack us and make us miserable. Also, this is why the authoritarians in Denver hate TABOR with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Imagine a world where we don’t have TABOR, and the Colorado politicians could just keep that money.
-
Ballot Question 300 in Colorado Springs would allow sales of recreational marijuana inside city limits. How will you vote on this issue?
-
Criminals have been emboldened by the soft-on-crime laws passed by the legislature in 2021. Because of this, smash-and-grab robberies are out of control in Colorado Springs and El Paso County.
-
Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen is seeking reelection to this office. He’s also seeking a $50,000 per year raise.
-
El Paso County Commissioner Stan VanderWerf is receiving death threats related to television commercials opposing his run for state senate. One man has been arrested.
-
Our friends at KRDO television have interviewed candidates for Colorado’s 5th U.S. Congressional District. You can watch these interviews here.
-
The Rockrimmon branch of the Pikes Peak Library District will close at the end of November after library board members decided they don’t have the funds to support the branch.
-
