New Pesticide Applicator Testing Procedures
|
|
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF) has changed the way pesticide applicators test to become certified applicators. All testing will now be a proctored computer based exam that is currently only provided in Oklahoma at eight PSI Services LLC test centers. PSI has test centers located in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, McAlester, Woodward, Lawton, Enid, and Ponca City. PSI also has test centers in surrounding states. It is advised to check the PSI website, psiexams.com, to see which locations might be closer that offer ODAFF examinations.
All pesticide applicators (private, non-commercial, or commercial) must pass the computer exam at a PSI test center to become a certified applicator. Only certified applicators are allowed to purchase and use restricted use pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.). Historically private applicators were able to purchase take home test packets and mail in the exam, but after January 1, 2020 even private applicators will have to test at one of the PSI test centers.
All exams will require an appointment to be made via the PSI website (psiexams.com) or the reservation phone number (1-800-733-9267). Applicators must make an appointment for each exam they wish to take. For commercial applicators, a separate appointment must be made for the core exam and each specific category exam. Each exam will cost $95 (except Private applicators which is $65) and is paid when making the appointment using a valid credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover). Cash or check will not be accepted.

Yellow Hellebores are blooming on the north side of our office building, one of the first to bloom each year.
|
|
These well loved perennials, often commonly known as Lenten roses, have been called “winter roses”, “nature’s gift to winter”, even “the perfect perennial”. Sometimes even called "Hellebrrrrs”. Hellebores just seem to ignore it all and continue their flower show! They are tough plants, growing readily in dry shade. With plant zone 6-9, they prefer the shade in Oklahoma and may go into dormant hiding in hot summer weather.
These do well to naturalize in woodland areas, or place in a border partnered with other plants that will shine in the summer while they rest. They prefer a well drained soil; too wet and they will rot. Great to place with hosta, ferns, and carex grasses. Several color choices are available.

|
Sharing a link, a 5 minute survey for your clientele, specifically
Master Gardeners, Ag Producers and any general public interested in gardening, water quality, pesticide usage, etc. (anyone willing to participate)
within your county. The general public’s honest input will help us identify topics for new educational materials which we will work to develop for your use in the near future.

A fellow Ag Educator, Coy McCorkle, Hughes and Seminole Counties, is asking for help with a
Water Project
he is currently working on. It is in conjunction with educators participating in the NC ANR Water Academy. There is a link to a survey below, and I would like to ask for a few minutes of not only your time, but if you would be so kind as to forward to any clientele you feel would be willing to participate as well. We are looking for as many responses as we can gather from across the state of Oklahoma. The main point of the survey is to gather input from clientele who either have water wells, or work with water wells.
If you have any questions, please contact Coy McCorkle
in Hughes Co 405-379-5470 or Seminole Co 405-257-5433. Or by
