Spring rains and fluctuating humidity can present some serious challenges to baling hay in central Oklahoma this time of year. While rain is welcomed, it can definitely create some of us a few headaches. So, if you do have hay down and it is rained on, what is the quality going to be after it is baled up?

FDA Rule Change for Veterinary Prescriptions

Beginning June 11, livestock owners must obtain a veterinarian’s prescription to purchase certain animal medications.

The new rule is a continuation of the Food and Drug Administration’s efforts to ensure the judicious use of medically important antimicrobials.

After the Storm - Tree Resources Available

Many local residents have experienced tree damage or losses. On our website, we have added a collection of tree resources in one location for easy access. For now, once clean up is done, you can plan for fall planting. Tree roots will grow during the winter months and the trees will establish quicker and easier in the cool season. Scout out what you want to plant this summer. Visit arboretums or botanical gardens. Consider the mature size of the tree. Allow plenty of room for utility access, so the linemen don't have so much clearing to do. We want the right tree for the right place!

Absentee Shawnee Tribe partners with OSU Extension for Garden Workshop Series

Held on the second Friday of the month, these will be held at the Absentee Shawnee Multipurpose Building, 2029 James L Edwards Lane, Shawnee, OK

Seed Saving

Friday, June 9, 2023

10 am to noon

We are going to cover Seed Saving for vegetables and pollinator plants. Heirloom varieties and open pollinated plants can be saved, shared, and handed down. Many heritage plants have been handled for generations to preserve seed for today's gardens.

Full schedule January to June with more for summer and fall!

Educational meetings for the Pottawatomie County Cattlemen's Association will start back up next August.
