Higher Egg Prices are the New Normal in 2023 | |
Record-high egg prices are making headlines right now, but when can consumers expect some relief? Oklahoma State University Extension specialists say several factors are to blame for the significant price spike, and the sticker shock is expected to continue through the first quarter of 2023.

I Spy - Entomology Series
On our Facebook Page a weekly series has begun. This is an adventure into the insect world (mainly our horticulture insects) that we may see in the garden or around our homes. Some insects are actually helpers. Remember the food chain cycle from science class? So, before our gardens grow and we get busy outdoors again, check in each week and learn about our tiny creatures. Share with the students and kids in your life, so they learn to appreciate the good ones and which ones to be more careful about handling. Stay tuned for more in the series! Master Gardener Greg Hinkle has been working on a new paver area for the handicap accessible raised bed project. Taking advantage of sunny, winter days, this will be a good foundation for the new addition. | |
Vase Project / Recycling Drive 2023 - Reporting Back
Thank you for supporting our local businesses and a greener industry!
With the weather this week, all of the florists have not been contacted yet for the update. So far, 35 vases were recycled. Just know that you can re-use and recycle these when you need to de-clutter!

FORAGE FOUNDATIONS COURSE
- A new seven course program that covers all aspects of forage management and production across central and eastern Oklahoma.
- Covers Oklahoma forages, soil fertility and plant nutrition, pasture renovation and restoration, pest management, forage quality and grazing animal nutrition, grazing management, hay production and storage and forage budgeting.

Forage Foundations is designed to educate producers on forage management and production principles to improve the sustainability and profitability of their livestock operations.
- 2 CEU's for category 1A pending for pesticide applicators.

All participants will receive the Forage Foundations Manual.

The Pottawatomie County Cattlemen's Association
will be hosting an educational event on March 23, 2023. Our speaker for
the evening will be Dr. Barry Whitworth, OSU Senior Extension Specialist.
Dr. Whitworth will discuss upcoming changes in antibiotic usage on the
farm.

Pecan Management Course
February to October, Perkins Research Station
Enrollment for the 2023 Oklahoma Pecan Management Course is open!
The class meets one Tuesday afternoon from 1-5pm at the Cimarron Valley Research Station near Perkins. February 28 is the first class. Other dates are April 4, May 9, July 11, August 8, September 12 & October 17.
We don’t meet in June but encourage participants to attend the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Associational meeting. This year it will be held in Tulsa on June 1-3.
New this year, the May class will start at 10am to allow more time for grafting practice in the field.

Grape Management Course
March to September, Perkins Research Station
Classes will cover Dormant Pruning, Site Selection, Grape Cultivar Types, Irrigation, Soil, Grapevine Planting & Training, Canopy Management, Fertilization, Weed Management, Diseases, Vineyard Equipment, and much more.
Hands-on activity will be incorporated.
The cost of the course is $250 per person.
