2020 Summer Camps: Walk on the Wild Side!

Get ready for another summer of fun with Pottawattamie Conservation Summer Nature Camps!

With a focus on outdoor skills our 2020 Summer Nature Camp Series is sure to be a "WILD" time! Campers will learn valuable skills at each of our camps, from archery to shelter building, canoeing to plant & animal identification, these are the skills that are going to transform outdoor experiences into outdoor adventures.

Registration for all summer nature camps will open at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2nd. 

Members of the Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation have the opportunity to be first in line with early registration beginning on Monday, February 24th.  Not a member yet? Become a Welcome Desk Volunteer at Hitchcock Nature Center
Looking to make a difference in 2020? Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center as a welcome desk volunteer! 

Use your enthusiasm for nature as you greet and assist visitors, answer phones, ring up gift shop purchases, sell memberships, & assist the Loess Hills Lodge staff with occasional projects. Welcome desk volunteers also have the opportunity to assist our Environmental Education Department with amazing public programs like Monarch Tagging, Maple Tree Tapping, & much more! 

Weekday & weekend daytime hours are available & volunteers are welcome to schedule regular shifts or volunteer for individual shifts as their schedule allows.

This position is open to anyone 18 & over with enthusiasm & an outgoing personality looking for an office with a view. 
Pottawattamie Conservation Seasonal Internships Available

College students looking to gain experience in the fields of conservation, environmental education, land stewardship, & recreation are invited to apply for our seasonal internship program. These paid summer internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable experience &  work with industry professionals.  Three different internship positions are available in 2020. 

Park Ranger Intern - Assist rangers at each of our parks with day to day operations including
maintenance, grounds keeping, security, guest services, & more.

Natural Areas Management Intern - Assist our NAM department with land stewardship projects. Job duties include seed harvesting, trail maintenance, species inventories, construction projects, prescribed burns, invasive species management, & more.

Environmental Education Intern - Assist staff Naturalists with the creation, implementation, & presentation of environmental education programming including public programs, field trips, & youth summer camps. Additional duties include guest services, building maintenance, & more.
