Robert is a 71-year-old, disabled former police officer that can still drive.
He was leaving the Christian HELP parking lot when he stopped to speak to our Executive Director.
“I was getting out of my car one day, about to go into Christian HELP when Robert pulled up & rolled down his window to speak to me. I asked how I could help him, and he responded, “Oh you already have!”. He proceeded to tell me how the pantry was such a blessing to him & that he just couldn’t afford many groceries, let alone quality food any longer.
Robert said he didn’t know what he would do if not for the pantry. He appreciates the food so much & it is meeting a real need in his life. He receives fruits and vegetables and so much more. I told Robert how happy we were to serve him & he responded with “I know. That’s the other thing I love about this place, how you treat people.”
I noticed he was wearing a cross, so we talked a little bit about his faith & how the Lord provides. We gave God credit for all good things (James 1:17), wished each other a good day, & he drove on his way."
It's humbling to meet people like Robert that have lived a life of service and know that we get to now help him in his time of need. It's the least we can do.
