Local Action Update
Warren joins Power A Clean Future Ohio
We are excited to announce that this week, Warren joined Power A Clean Future Ohio thanks to the leadership of the city's mayor, Doug Franklin. Warren is the 12th community to join our growing coalition of leading cities across Ohio and has committed to our #Ohio30by30 pledge to reduce the city’s carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.

“Our community is well positioned to lead the state in innovation through new opportunities available here in Voltage Valley,” said Mayor Franklin. “I’m proud of the leadership our community has shown in recognizing that renewable energy and advanced transportation are critical for our growth. We look forward to working with Power a Clean Future Ohio and other local governments to create a clean energy economy in Ohio, an economy that I know Warren residents are ready to help build.”

Our partner, BRITE Energy Innovators, is based in Warren and supports their city's commitment to renewable energy innovation.

“We support Warren joining this initiative as it brings more opportunities for our startup clients to pilot new energy technologies in our hometown,” said Sara Daugherty, Director of Partnerships at BRITE Energy Innovators, the only energy technology incubator in the state. “The coalition brings best practices for building efficiency, fleet electrification and can allow Warren to become a leader in equitable solutions and job creation.”
PCFO Introduces New Campaigns Director
Mark Gavin
Mark Gavin, Sr.'s, first political engagement was when he was just 8 years old, and his dad recruited him to lobby Warren City Council to keep a park open. He has spent more than a decade working on and leading campaigns across every level of government. Mark has also spent a significant portion of his career in community organizing around energy, the environment and criminal justice reform to liberate people of color. More recently, Mark served in senior roles at 360 Campaign Consulting, where he helped lead independent expenditure efforts in Wisconsin for the general election and Georgia for the runoff.

As PCFO campaigns director, Mark will mainly focus on helping communities with Community Choice Aggregation.

More about Mark: he is an avid television fan who is always ready to watch Jeopardy or talk about The West Wing and is currently on a mission to visit every Ohio brewery. He enjoys volunteering at his son’s school, brewing beer at home with his wife and cooking for those he loves. Though a proud native of Warren, Ohio, Mark resides in Columbus with his wife, son and their Yellow Lab Ella-Barker.
City of Upper Arlington Enters Contract to Shift Towards 100% Renewable Energy
The City of Upper Arlington recently announce their new partnership with Constellation Energy to further their commitment to renewable energy. This new partnership includes Constellation Energy providing 100% renewable energy supply, specifically wind power, to the city for a 36-month term.

Stated in their City Council's 2021-2022 budget, Upper Arlington outlined their goal of "prioritizing a shift to implementing environmentally- and sustainability-appropriate practices, with the goal of achieving zero-waste, zero-pollution and zero-emissions by 2030." Through this investment, the city's leadership is exemplifying the importance of renewable energy development and setting an example for neighboring Ohio cities to follow.
Local governments set record for new renewable energy procurement in 2020
Though 2020 had its set of challenges, local governments managed to set a record number of renewable energy procurements last year.

Lowering carbon emissions and fighting climate change was not only being prioritized at the federal level, but also on a local level, as cities found new and creative ways to implement green initiatives in their communities.

As this renewable energy revelation continues to happen, utility companies are also positioning themselves to help others achieve their carbon-reduction goals, as well as decarbonizing their efforts.

From the large-scale programs to the small, on-site renewables, cities are working hard to cut emissions and are benefiting from it in other ways, too. Experts say interest in adopting green initiative continues to increase in 2021 as smaller communities are favoring the additional benefits such as local job creation, equity and social benefits.
