Local Action Update

On Monday, March 15, the city of Columbus passed an Energy and Water Benchmarking Ordinance which is a critical piece of the city’s climate action plan. As adopted by council, the ordinance will enable greater efficiency in apartments, stores, schools, hospitals and other large buildings. PCFO congratulates Columbus on this achievement and sends our gratitude to the each city councilmember for their support of this initiative! Ohio Clean Energy Summit Postponement

Due to ongoing concerns around the spread of COVID-19 and guidance issued by state and federal government, the Ohio Clean Energy Summit: Local Communities Lead will be postponed to a later date.     At this time we are actively working with our summit partners and speakers to determine when we will reschedule this groundbreaking event. We will be sure to update you as plans are finalized.    The Power a Clean Future Ohio campaign will continue to build on the momentum we see across the state as local leaders work to create a clean and prosperous future for their residents by offering equitable, community-driven solutions for reducing carbon emissions. It is imperative we continue to work together to find the best possible solutions for the future of our economy, health and climate.   Thank you for your work to date on supporting this important effort. PCFO City Spotlight: Cincinnati City: Cincinnati Mayor: John Cranley Population: 302,605 (approx.) Nickname: The Queen City Leading on Solar! The City of Cincinnati is building the largest municipal solar array in the country. It will provide renewable energy to all of the city’s facilities and provide clean energy to residents through the Cincinnati Electric Aggregation Program. Once the project is complete, it is projected to reduce the region’s annual carbon emissions by 158,000 tons. This project is moving forward due to the bold leadership of Cincinnati’s mayor and the strong support of the city’s residents to move Cincinnati to a clean energy future. “Cities need to take action – and that’s exactly what Cincinnati is doing. We are spending money we would already spend on power to buy lower-cost renewable energy that also benefits the community,” said Mayor John Cranley. Learn more about the project here . Cincinnati’s businesses take the climate challenge seriously. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Fifth Third has set ambitious sustainability goals. It is well on its way to achieve the goal of purchasing 100% renewable power ahead of schedule with the completion of the Aulander Holloman Solar Facility in North Carolina. The bank has already achieved its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2022.
