Power A Clean Future Ohio Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Campaign Launch
On February 10, 2020, leaders from across Ohio joined together to launch Power a Clean Future Ohio, a nonpartisan organization that is dedicated to working with local officials to develop equitable global climate change solutions. As we now celebrate our first anniversary, we remain just as committed to reducing carbon emissions throughout Ohio in big and small ways that make sense for each local community.

We are pleased to announce that nine Ohio communities have become PCFO leading cities in 2020, including Athens, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Euclid, Lakewood, Lorain, Reynoldsburg and Silverton. To see a map of these cities and information about their current carbon-reducing projects, visit our website.

In 2021, Power a Clean Future Ohio will continue working directly with local elected officials, businesses, faith groups, advocacy organizations and others to inform and incentivize action at the community level to combat climate change and spur the economic growth and development that results from embracing clean technologies and advanced transportation. We remain dedicated to ensuring every community has clean air, clean energy, and clean transportation, regardless of their zip code.
Celebrating Black History Month
Seven Black Environmental Leaders Making a Difference
In celebration of Black History Month, Southern Poverty Law Center is highlighting the work of seven Black environmental leaders who are striving to build a healthy environment for all. The piece features quotes from inspirational leaders in the environmental justice movement, as well as providing information on how to follow these individuals on social media platforms, how to find their written works, and additional opportunities to learn from their experiences. Learn how Nathaniel Smith, Chief Equity Officer at the Partnership for Southern Equity is driving a conversation about what an equity agenda looks like in Atlanta and other areas, including addressing energy equity through the health lens.

In addition, Power a Clean Future Ohio is proud to see that the piece spotlights Heather McTeer Toney, the first Black, woman, and youngest-ever Mayor of Greenville, Mississippi. Heather is currently the Senior Director at Moms Clean Air Force, an organization who is a partner in the PCFO efforts right here in Ohio. Don’t miss this directory of Black leaders fighting every day for a better quality of life in our most impacted areas of the country.
Ohio Mayors Alliance includes state and local clean energy efforts in their 2021 policy priorities
This week, the Ohio Mayors Alliance announced its policy priorities for 2021. The Ohio Mayors Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of mayors in Ohio’s largest communities that promotes and fosters collaboration in their work across the state. In 2021, the mayors have outlined a broad policy agenda focused on Recovery, Resiliency, and Equity, which includes a mix of legislative proposals, as well as local solutions. The Ohio Mayors Alliance is a partner in our Power a Clean Future Ohio efforts, and we are encouraged to see that advocating for state level solutions and supporting local efforts to promote clean energy and improve sustainability are among the priorities included for 2021. We look forward to continuing our work together. You can read the entire list of legislative priorities on the Ohio Mayors Alliance website.
New report calls for equity in the distribution of benefits of transportation electrification
EVHybridNoire and Clean Fuels Ohio have released a new joint report that provides insight into the current policy, outreach, and educational inequities that exist in the clean transportation sector and outlines a foundational framework for meeting these disparities. The report,Transforming Transportation in Communities of Opportunity: The Cleveland Study,” demonstrates the significant benefits widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EV) provides to both owners and communities, including better health outcomes, financial benefits, and community-wide economic benefits derived from reducing the exportation of energy revenue. The data on experiences with clean transportation will enable governmental agencies, advocacy organizations and utilities to begin to understand and plan to meet the needs of low-income and Black communities, who have thus far been largely excluded – on an institutional level – from outreach, education and policy efforts. Power a Clean Future Ohio is pleased to work with both EVHybridNoire and Clean Fuels Ohio in our clean transportation efforts in the state.
